| Re: | | It matters because of Matt 12:40 "...three days AND THREE NIGHTS..."
I understand everything else you said about Wednesday/Thursday and the Jewish DAY, but I am trying to see how the "night" would come into play with everything you told me.
Because it def has to be "..three days AND THREE NIGHTS..."
I am not so much interested in what it would be CALLED, but when it actually is, what is the time frame for night |

| Re: | | Well, instead lets look at the hours... 6pm Wednesday (the beginning of Thurs) to 6pm Thursday... 1 day, 1 night. 6pm Friday... 2 days, 2 nights. 6pm Saturday... 3 days, 3 nights... and He arose sometime between 6pm Saturday (beginning of Sunday) and dawn Sunday.
Exactly 3 days and 3 nights, just as He said.
We dont know the exact hour, just that by dawn on the first day of the week (Sunday) He was not in the tomb. (Praise The Lord!!)

| Re: If you celebrate Good Friday... You're too late! | | brother krispy and blazedbyGod,
i was gonna ask you guys what do you do with all the verses that say he rose on the 3rd day? not trying to be the one disagreeing, but to the jews any part of one day was considered a whole day.
also there are many scriptures that say that He was raised on the third day.
Matthew 16:21 [ Jesus Predicts His Death ] From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Matthew 17:23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." And the disciples were filled with grief. Matthew 20:19 and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!" Luke 9:22 And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life." Luke 13:32 He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.' Luke 18:33 On the third day he will rise again." Luke 24:7 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' " Luke 24:21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. Luke 24:46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, Acts 10:40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 1 Corinthians 15:4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
sorry for the many verses, but i showed them to see how many times the different writers and Christ said that He would die and be raised on the third day.
it really doesn't matter eternally whether it was wednesday or friday, at least we know that He was raised again and is coming back soon.
i hope that these verses challenge us to dig deeper into His word. :-)
excellent thread guys, phil |

| Re: | | LoveHim... thats a good question... and its a good question that doesnt really matter. We could really get off on debating which side of the Ark the elephants slept on, ya know?
My main point tho in this dicussion is that contrary to traditions of men, Good Friday is not when He was crucified... no more than December 25th was when He was born.
Just trying to get people to think (tho most here have already figured this out) instead of just accepting tradition as truth.

| Re: | | And it is an excellent thread, but i think Phil's question is an important one, and i would like to hear the answer too!
Oh and i reckon the elephants slept in the centre of the ark (their weight on one side or the other would have sunk it!) :-) _________________ George Platt

| Re: | | This is interesting.A few months ago,in my journal I did the same thing..days and nights, equally them up etc. but I began this thinking the Passover began on sundown on friday..because I have always thought the sabbath was on saturday. What contributed to this was a devout Jewish scholar/philosopher named Adam, a neighbor on an adjoining farm in Maui, who would come to discuss the things of God with me and unfailingly invite me to the sabbath meal celebration every friday before sundown. Jesus being the Passover Lamb I thought was slain before this celebration..3 oclock? but then it became dark immediately..as though the sun had gone down early.
Just yesterday I was thinking of this very thing..of when I sat working it out in my notebook, counting of the days which brought us past sunday..but this time I felt as if the Holy Spirit was bringing it up to show me how legalistic a phase I'd been caught in,I'd become stiff and rigid in some ways trying to relate with some very legalistic folks else where..trying to conform more to their ways of percieving so they might accept me as of the beloved..this has been broken off me lately,Hallelujah! So here I am remembering this trying to prove that sunday wasn't the actual day..I don't know how to descibe what went through me except to say that I laughed at myself a bit..and I felt it wasn't so important after all. However, today I am reading this and I am wondering if God isn't interested in us looking into this..what exactly are You saying Lord?
When I went away from the computer to pray about if I could join in on the conversation or not..I realized that I now felt confused and remembered something else..I couldn't help smiling abit at the memory of this, and felt led to share it with y'all.
Adam had come to talk and I had previously felt God asking me to play and sing him a song I'd written yrs earlier..that told of waiting upon the Lord..tarrying in His presence before the sun rose..which I referred to as daybreak lighting the sky..after I was finished...Adam ,ever the practical scholar, corrected me to say that the jewish daybreak is at sundown not sunrise..all the wind went out of my sails..visibly..He apologized seeing how his statement had affected me..but I told him I was glad to know the information..my attachment to this expression of love, committed trust and obediance,my expression was perhaps not such a healthy attachment for me to have..if a simple correction could so obviously deflate me..I'd of had to have been inflated with pride over the writing of it to be deflated at the criticism of it..aha! I was grateful for the knowing, and grateful for the exposing of a hidden spot of pride.
I am a jew but my grandmother hid this fact from even my mother who was born between the two wars. They fled from Holland only to wind up in a Japanese prison of war camp in Indonesia during WWII.Our jewish heritage didn't come to light until I was a young adult, although my father says he always knew for certain that my mother was a jew before she did..I can recall how he used to say..'my little jewess',affectionately to her. I often feel pretty stupid when it comes to knowing much about jewish tradition and such, even though I have gained alot from reading the OT in bible studies and on my own,I never felt led to adopt for myself a strong attachment or adherence to Jewish religious ceremony etc.when I saw how annoyed the Father was with it all so often..how it was a shadow only of all that is in Jesus. But even if Adam knew more about the things that were his forte..I knew Jesus..for real! So what I had to offer next was the most valuable piece of information he would ever recieve..should he recieve it.
Humbled and grateful,I went on to tell Adam of a song I knew was pure..the greatest song I'd ever heard thus far. I told him about the time when I was surrounded by a large band of angels as I was about to awaken one morn, when I was 20, who were singing a simple but glorious song hailing Jesus' Kingship, Glory and Deity..two verses..with a decidedly jewish style and melody to it..I'd awakened and sat up in bed and they were all still there singing the second verse! Adam seriously pondered that one ,after hearing me play it, without further comment.
So in just going with the flow I was tickled by this post because I thought..hey,this is pretty interesting..maybe we will come to some real understanding of what day is what and when, etc. However I'm still not sure about the why this is so important. But I'm staying open to see where it goes.Have Your way here, Father! _________________ G.M. | Re: | | dear here4Him,
i used to believe that Jesus was crucified on wednesday as well because of the verse in matthew about jonah's sign (3 days and 3 nights). but i failed to see that anytime in 1 day constituted the whole day so for me Christ was crucified on friday (preparation day) at 3pm (darkness from 6th hour-noon to 9th hour-3pm). so friday was 1 night and 1 day. saturday was 1 night and 1 day and sunday before dawn is 1 night and 1 day.
3 days and 3 nights with Him rising on the third day like the many scriptures show. (sometime between saturday night and sunday morning- the 3rd day).
if Jesus was crucified on wednesday at 3pm, then you have 5 nights and 5 days, because any part of one day was considered the whole night and day. then you have wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday.
that's just a little why i personally believe according to scripture He was crucified on friday at the 9th hour(3pm) and raised sunday before dawn(6am).
nevertheless, it's not hugely important, but it is good to have an idea and why you believe so ya know??
and by the way, the elephants didn't sleep in the ark, they interceded for the other animals ;-)
just a joke, phil

| Re: | | Wednesday, Thursday morning... who cares? I just wanted to make the point that man's traditions are not always the truth. I should've known we'd nit-pick this to death.

| Re: If you celebrate Good Friday... You're too late! | | Thanks Krispy for posting this. This is a conclusion I came to a couple years ago thanks to a question my former Pastor asked me. I think it is a great topic. I kind of get confused about the day, night thing and the dates, but the point is, what Jesus said was true! :)
