 Put on Christ

Romans 13: " But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to lusts."

Isn't it awesome that you can read through many verses over and over and then they seem to jump of the page!?

How do you put on the Lord Jesus Christ? Are we not already wearing the Lord Jesus...metaphorically speaking. The verses before this, indicate laying aside the things of darkness and put on the armor of light, behaving properly.

So how much of our Christian life is an act of will? Or should I say, obedience. Many, including myself at many times, seek and expect more of a "spiritual" experience. It can be made to think that something has to happen, some type of euphoric experience. Can it be as simple as just putting on Christ? In a sense, this is what it says, so therefore just do it. Of course not by flesh, but by his spirit.

Paris Reidhead says in order to have victory over sin and temptation , you have to see two people on the Cross, Jesus and you! He explains that when we are converted we rush on through, plead the blood, try to live right, and before you know it we walked right past the Cross of Christ, It has almost become a cliche in Christianity. It seems that the Cross has lost it vigor among Christians. We try so much to do things and follow rules, or maybe its just me! :-) Paris says until we come to the Cross and see Him and ourselves, we will not have victory. I, we, need to come back to the Cross.

What does this verse say to you?

Blessings
Mike

 Re: Put on Christ

It is like having a thousand dollars in your coat pocket and being hungry. You have got it but you don't use it or "put it on". We have Christ in us just like we were on the Cross with Christ, we died to sin as He did for us. We hang on the Cross with Him. We were resurrected in Him also unto new Life in Him. By the Christ in us we are a new creature. We just don't put Him on. Again it is like having a heavy duck down winter cold in the closet and freezing. We must put it on to keep from dying of the cold. The same if for Christ, we are saved and have all the blessing of God the Father of Jesus Christ coming down form heaven above and in the Spirit and in Christ. If we don't appropriate the new life that has been birthed in us.

Colossians 1:9-13 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

It is there brothers and sisters, put it on, even the Christ that is in you the Hope of Glory.

Mat 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

He will "do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" That is in His Power and in the Spirit of Christ.

By putting on Christ in the Spirit by His faith: Romans 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Romans 14:8-9 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. Colossians 1:27-28 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

He is in you, put Him on.

In Christ: Phillip
