 Apostate Believer or False Convert

Scripture says that there will be Christians that leave the faith. I hear some people saying that those people were just false converts that never believed. Where is that line?

Sister-

Answers here are going to be given in support of peoples position on eternal security. Before the big guns come out ablazin' from both camps, just read it for what it says. That there are some who error from the faith, not from false converion, but from the faith. (1 Timothy 6)

 Re:

Jim,
Thank you. I find that what you have said is true. I am thinking about my parents when asking this question. They took us to church when I was little. I remember my dad praying, being filled with the Spirit and speaking in tongues. the same with my mom. Then they had a fight with the leadership of the church and basically turned their back on Christianity. My dad believes in God, but in a 'all paths lead to God' sort of way. My mom says she believes the Bible, but there is no indication of such in her life. I was in a Bible study lead by someone who is of the osas persuasion and was told that my parents were never believers at all. That is why I ask the question.

Thank you for your response.

And I hope I haven't asked this question here before... :)

 Re:

I think a lot of times we use modern lingo that confuses things too. (OSAS, false convert, backslider, etc) The parable of the sower is a good place to look for answers in these type of situations.

May you be a shining light before them sister.

It also, it may help to take a look at these few verses:

John 6: 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples WENT BACK, and walked NO MORE with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? ( Though Jesus said he would never leave the 12-he plainly ask them- Will YE (YOU) also GO AWAY?

Hebrews 10:38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man DRAW BACK, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back UNTO PERDITION( like Judas, who is called the son of perdition) but of them that believe to the saving of the soul

John 2:23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. 24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

These people BELIEVED IN HIS NAME, but the problem was, Jesus himself was NOT committed unto them-but he was committed to the 11 (excluding Judas)
