| Roy Hession, The Calvary Road | | I was listening to a sermon from Charity Christian Fellowship when the preacher read from this book. I just downloaded a copy. Has anyone ever read this book?

| Re: Roy Hession, The Calvary Road | | It contains some questionable doctrine to say the least.
I would ask you to read the following two articles before reading it-

| Re: | | Brother Patrick,
I read through the first site...this post was writen according to what I read, by a two year old believer.
And this author attributes the teaching of the "second blessing" to this book that was popular in the 1980s.
Just a thought...
Have you read this book?

Brother Jeff,
Yes, this book has been such a blessing into my life, I have read it in a difficult times, and the Lord used it to reveal some great truths to me. If I can describe it by one sentence it would be: "It focus your eyes to the Lamb of God" Don't hesitate to read it, you will bear much from it.

| Re: | | Thank you Kire....
I have read the first two chapters...they are wonderful. I am currently leading a small group in our church and the topic for the course I am teaching is "motivations of the heart." The Scripture I am teaching from is the first chapter of first John and the prayers of Psalm 119.
It is again no coincedence that Hession book fell into my world today. The prayers of Psalm 119 focus on our sin and how we should acknowledge our ways and ask God to solve our problems. And the Psalmist is always asking for more of Him. He is pleading to be filled with understanding and righteousness. And first John is about the joy of fellowship with our Lord Jesus. The first two chapters of Hession's book deals with these two subjects and knits them together in a way I could not put to words as i now can for the small group...
praise the Lord in all times.

Jeff, I like what you said about psalm119. I see it that way too. It is one of my favorite psalms! _________________ Lisa

I bought my copy at Nancy DeMoss's Revive Our Hearts Conference. but later found it at the link above as well.
RoaringLamb give some good links to read before you read this book. As with anything other than Scripture it is always best to make sure it lines up. Don't take this guy's(Roy Hession) word as Gospel! Take what meat you can, but spit out any bones.

| Re: | | Brother Jeff, I have read it at least twice. Then I would beat myself up to get more of the Spirit, and to be on the highway. I became an ascetic Pharisee who was so worried about falling from grace, and losing my standing with God that I would rarely do anything, even with my wife. All was defiling, or so I thought.
This book became a load of bricks to carry around, and also a means of self righteousness.
Now though by the grace of God I see clearly that I cannot add one iota to the work of Christ on my behalf. I am justified by the work of Another, and this declaration by God is not due to my growth or lack of sanctification.
My main concern with this book is it makes "me" the center of spirituality, and the cause of revival. If all we can do is look within to find the source of spirituality, we are doomed, for if any of you are like me there is nothing but sin and failure that is yet to be worked out.
This is why we look out from self to Christ, and take His life, and trust Him to direct circumstances, and every aspect of life to His glory. You do not need to strive to find things to do when trusting Him, simply live and be amazed at what transpires.
Revival is God's choice to give, and man cannot add or take away from that. Revivalism is man working and cajoling to get God to do something, and then saying He has to because we have dotted all the "i's" and crossed all the "t's". _________________ patrick heaviside
