 Dave Ravenhill Interview

Dave Ravenhill Interview

UC: Some consider your father Leonard to be one of the godliest men of this century. What was it like growing up as his son?

DR: I always had a deep appreciation and respect for my father and his ministry. He was a man who lived what he preached. I don’t ever recall a time when he was angry or frustrated. He was always a man of prayer as well as passionate for God. He deeply cared about the spiritual condition of the church and wept over her continually. Even at age 87 he was still rising every night to pray. How could you possibly find fault with that?

UC: What do you think your father would say about the spiritual condition of the Church in America today?

DR: I believe he would describe the church as prayerless, passionless, and far from pure. He would see the church as shallow and self-centered. More conscious of how the world views her than how the Lord sees her. He would describe her as rich and increased with goods and in need of everything.

UC: Anybody who knows you personally, knows you to be a wise and cautious man—the last one to be given over to hysteria or emotionalism. And yet, many people consider the “Pensacola Revival” to have been just that. Why did you connect yourself to this event?

DR: I believe the Lord clearly led us to Pensacola. While I was never officially on the staff, I did have the opportunity to travel with the Awake America team plus attend dozens of meetings. I don’t believe I would call it “hysteria” but certainly emotional. One cannot read the Bible without seeing all types of emotion. David danced before the Lord with ALL his might. The Father called in the band and supplied music and dancing when His son returned home. The man at the temple when healed certainly got excited and went walking and leaping and praising God. I believe that one of the problems in the church is a lack of true emotion or passion for God. We get all excited about sport but when it comes to God’s house we act like we’re in a morgue full of dead people. You could not attend the “Pensacola Revival” without seeing lives radically changed and transformed. I’ve met and talked to these people and can testify to the transforming work of God’s grace in their lives. Like every genuine revival the devil will be in attendance doing his “thing.” If this were not so you would have to question the validity of the work. Jesus said, “As soon as the seed is sown Satan cometh immediately.” When God is at work, so is the devil. Unfortunately that’s all some people look for and all they find. I believe as Jesus stated that “Wisdom is justified of her children.” All one has to do is look at the fruit of this mighty move of God.

UC: Pornography seems to have swept through Christendom. Everyday we hear stories of ministers who are “struggling” with it. How do you feel about pastors who “struggle” with pornography remaining in the pulpit?

DR: I guess it depends how you define “struggle.” We know that temptation is not sin but the yielding to it is. If a pastor is “hooked” in his mind with pornography, he needs to honestly seek help. This is such a powerful bondage that very few are able to free themselves. I believe that they should step down from ministry until they truly know they’re free. What begins in the mind will ultimately express itself in some sort of deviant behavior. So the problem needs to be dealt with ASAP. You can uproot a sapling with your bare hands but when it becomes a tree, you need extra “power.” Both the power of God as well as the prayers and assistance of others.

UC: What do you see ahead for the Church?

DR: I’m hoping personally for some sort of an economic collapse. I know that sounds very extreme, but I believe it’s going to take this to bring the church back to God. The prophet Isaiah said, “When the earth experiences Thy judgments the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. Though the wicked is shown favor, it does not learn righteousness.” (Isaiah 26:9) We have known the continued favor and blessing of God in this nation for years yet continue to live selfish, self-centered lives. God has simply become a means to an end. We have made Him to be the divine butler who stands waiting to meet our every whim and fancy. It’s time for the church to be “about our Father’s business.” Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not wanting to go through another “great depression” but I fail to see any other way. Following the 911 attacks I wrote the following poem:

THE NUMBERING OF OUR DAYS

“In God we trust”
O how I wish those words
Were really true.
We trust far more in
Who WE ARE
The Red, The White, The Blue.

In times of National crisis
We turn to God and Say
“We need you God, at least for now”
Then later cease to pray.

Our churches fill with people
During these times of need.
We want to hear consoling words
For hearts that break and bleed.

But we have yet to really bow
And humbly seek His face,
Confessing sin and selfishness,
Before His throne of Grace.

And so until we really change
And leave our wicked ways
We’re doomed to watch in horror
The numbering of our days.

 Re: Dave Ravenhill Interview

I liked the interview and the wisdom and scriptures he used that were very insightful and so on. However, to say that Pensacola was from God? This is what I hear all the time: "it was from God but the Devil was there and so some of it was good and some bad". I am not ready to make a total claim on the matter since I have not actually seen the videos of the events just clips here and there. But I do have a question. If this was a revival from God and the Devil was working well what parts. Was it the parts where people were making animal noises. Was it the parts that the eldership agreed with while they said drink and the people fell down squirming around claiming to be drunk. If it were only some of it that was bad well that just doesnt seem like the case for the leaders were in on it. And has there been any rebuking or division toward those leaders who acted crazy or are they still affiliated? As far as I can tell that whole only part of it was bad argument does not stand for it seems to be most of it.

If you tie onto that the rest of the continuing stuff like golddust and angel feathers ect.. then it just goes to show this must be some kind of delusion or something.

There seems to be a lot of wishy washy thinking on this subject and it may be as I was reading in 2 Chronicles that the Lord sent into the prophets a false word so that they would prophesy wrong to the king and therefore bring judgment for the war he would lose.
