 Filling our minds with paraphernalia

Quote:
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

All my Christian life I have sat with other believers and where we should be sharing Christ we were always talking about what was going on in the world, Antichrist, Mark of the Beast, New World Order and the like. If we were not talking about that we were talking about what other religions believed and even be arguing about what we believed. I say "We" to generalize my speech, however I remember walking away before the discussions began or half way in the middle because I knew that such fellowship wasn't going to do me any good.

When I went out on my own. My Mother gave me a list of do's and don'ts and one of them was, "Hang around people that will do you some good". Even though these were my brothers in Christ, the discussions were not doing me any good. I got a lot of flack for "disappearing" when I felt grieved in my spirit over what was being discussed. I could have said something at the time, today I would have, but then I was quiet and shy and lacked confidence to stand and be heard, today thats not a problem anymore.

The word tells us not to be conformed to this world. I was reading the paper today and I haven't read the paper in awhile but I got to thinking about all the stuff that is there and how much it has influenced our thinking. The excuse we give ourselves is that we are looking for the signs of the times. It wasn't meant for us to be Jack Van Impe's scanning the worlds news networks and newspapers for anything that looks New Worldish on a daily basis.

Our business on Earth is to have our minds to be transformed to the image of Jesus Christ.
Quote:
Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His name.

What will the speaking of endtime events and other religions do for a transformed mind?

What is the mind of Christ? A mind that is bent on and only doing the will of the Father. Is it the will of the Father to scratch our heads trying to figure out what the 666 means? Is it the will of the Father to saturate ourselves with things that will not bring about a transformed mind? All these things edify the flesh and are deceptions. It's a ruse to keep us from the real objective.

Our purpose is to become christs, saviours if you like.
Quote:
1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.Obadiah 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD's.

But we are selling our birth right for a bowl of soup, an unstable product. We are giving ourselves to things that won't renew the mind to conform it into the image of the very one that is able to perform the will of God in us, Christ Jesus our LORD. This is our hope of glory, that Christ be formed in you.

Whatever it takes, come LORD Jesus and finish your work within me, be the finisher of my faith that you alone will arise with healing in Your wings for this dying world. No glory for me, no glory for us, we will glory only in the cross.

Re: Filling our minds with paraphernalia

I too am grieved at the things that Christians want to or not want to talk about. Even when we talk about Godly things, it is not often encouraging or admonishing, it simply is doctrinal or general. When my wife and I find people who desire to talk about the Lord and our victories and our challenges, we are desperate to hang onto them.

With this in mind, a few years ago, I too did not have much desire to speak of eternal things. We must make the first move and encourage professing Christians to speak more often of their faith. Chris

Our fellowship is with the Father and with
His Son, Christ Jesus. It should be
edifying and encouraging one another in
following and serving Christ. The Word
speaks of building up each other in grace
and speaking the truth in love. I also
miss the witness and testimony of what
God is working in our hearts and lives!!
