Learn from the fall of Rome, US warned

Learn from the fall of Rome, US warned

The US government is on a ‘burning platform’ of unsustainable policies and practices with fiscal deficits, chronic healthcare underfunding, immigration and overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon, the country’s top government inspector has warned.

David Walker, comptroller general of the US, issued the unusually downbeat assessment of his country’s future in a report that lays out what he called “chilling long-term simulations”.

These include “dramatic” tax rises, slashed government services and the large-scale dumping by foreign governments of holdings of US debt.

Drawing parallels with the end of the Roman empire, Mr Walker warned there were “striking similarities” between America’s current situation and the factors that brought down Rome, including “declining moral values and political civility at home, an over-confident and over-extended military in ...

It is sad that "secular" prophets are warning this nation not true prophets of God.

 Re:

Greg,

David Wilkerson has been warning the nation for decades, and when some of his warnings took to long to come true or if God held them back in His mercy, many, even on SI, have called him a false prophet.

I also remember the last times Andrew Strom or Josef Urban have written prophetic warnings about America, they were pracitcally booed off of SI...

I read an interesting book some years ago, by a man who had studied the rise and fall of civilisations.

He also drew the parallel of times of plenty leading to moral decay - less civil behaviour - less moral behaviour - increases in sexual immorality - less communal care - wastefulness of human life and resources - less discipline and nurturing of the young - and so on ...

He made his observations in the 70s, giving western civilisation a maximum of 150 more years before it would be returned to peasantry by default, if it did not learn from history.

He didn't pick on America in particular, but indicated that evidence from past cultures (if nothing changed), is overwhelming for decline.

As you might imagine, his book was not popular and had only one printrun.

We know the force that is responsible for this downward spiral. We just need be set apart from those groups who say aborton, homosexuality, no Bible in school, no Bible or Godly principles used in one life that is in authority. Each of us who are christians would set ourselves apart from those organizations who approve of such as Romans 1:28 reveals we would do well in God's eyes.

The best (most condemning) review of Evan Almighty came from a self proclaiming “non-religious” man that said he’d be offended by it if he were a Christian. He said the story of Noah was one of the saddest things in the Bible and the fact that the world had become so wicked that God chose to destroy it was nothing to laugh about. He went on to mention Noah’s righteousness compared to the hundreds of miracles needed in order to convince Evan to believe in God and how this was not true faith; that faith was belief in things unseen. It was amazing to read such Biblical understanding from a “non-believer”.

Sad more “Christians” didn’t see it his way.

 Re:

Walker neglected to add sports and entertainment to his list. Like Rome in it's fall, today we also idolize the athelete and movie stars. Vast sums of money were spent to entertain the masses in the days preceding the end of the Roman empire.
