Our apologies for now getting an update out sooner. It has now been two weeks since "Pappi"/Art went home to be with the Lord. On behalf of our entire family and the BI family, we would like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, compassion, gifts, flowers, and prayers that went out for Dad before his home going, and for our family in the days that have since passed.
It is still very difficult for us to imagine him not being here. From the depth of our souls, we miss him and often wish that the Lord had seen it in His plans to restore him to full health. But what greater grace could we ask for, then for Dad to be in the presence of the Lord? He is now in glory, walking in full health with no sickness or pain.
The service was everything we could have hoped for and more. We do know that so many more of you wanted to be here, but were unable to join us. We know you were with us in your thoughts and prayers. Even so, it was a completely full service. So many memories with people who came from all over, held at the lodge, sweet songs of praise and reminiscing on who Dad was and what he stood for, his life a legacy and the challenge for all of us to live up to that legacy. We ended the service by taking Dad for his "last walk" (and you all know how he loved his walks!), pulling and carrying the casket that David, Ariel, Melissa and Frank Eddins lovingly built for him, in the few short days before his service. Permission was obtained from the county and Dad was laid to rest on the farm, in what used to be part of the old garden, by an huge, old tree. David, Mervin and others are in the process of legally making that front two plus acres into a permanent resting place.
We are in the process of setting up a memorial fund in his name. We do not yet fully know ourselves what this fund will be used for, but Mom's heart is to see a library and learning center established. Dad had a desire to set up a scholarship fund to help foreign students with their expenses to come over seas and attend school sessions at Ben Israel. Several of you have asked in your cards if there is a memorial to contribute to....as of now, donations can be mailed to Ben Israel and marked for the "Art Katz Memorial Fund". These funds will be set apart from the operating costs of Ben Israel and will be used for a memorial purpose, to honor Dad.
And last, for all of you to know, please keep David in your prayers. He had an accident Wednesday afternoon with a chain saw that went into his leg, right above his knee, severing tendons and muscles and had what is described as an "open joint". He was taken into surgery and had the wound irrigated and repaired. He should be discharged to home today (Thursday). We will keep you updated on his progress.
Thank you, thank you again, to all of you who loved and supported Dad and our family. There will never be enough words to properly express our gratitude to all of you! May we all seek to continue to see the vision and purpose that Dad saw, with honesty, integrity and truth in our hearts, to see His ultimate glory and praise be given.
On behalf of the Katz family,
