 A call to Alms

Not found in the Old Testament, but found repeatedly in the New Testament.

(Galatians 2
7. But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8. (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9. And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
10. Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

-Dorcas [Tabitha, the widow],
(Ac.9:36. Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and alms deeds which she did

-Cornelius,
(Ac.10:2. A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.)

Our Lord and his disciples showed an example of this (John 13:29).

(Matt.6:1-4
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.)

(Lk.11:41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.)

(Lk.12:33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.)

(Gal.2:10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.)

The Pharisee did their alms in such a way as to draw attention to themselves (Matt. 6:2).
