 Re:

Quote:
... and to keep himself unspotted from the world...

Lots of things come to mind here. My first is- there has to be a conscious 'stopping' of the influence of this world. This seems to mean that any source of impurity that could be introduced into the heart needs to end. I am thinking now of how in Judges 2 the people were told that they must throw down the altars of the people of the land- but they did not. And the gods of the land became a stumbling block to Israel. the consequence of this was that God did not utterly drive their enemies out from before them, but they became thorns in Israels side. The interesting thing here is that some of the root concepts for temptation and seduction come from the meaning of 'pricking'. Goads would steer the animal as it plowed the field. Could it be that if we do not throw down the altars the enemy will 'prick' us towards sinfulness as a consequence?

Quote:
Hbr 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

What specifically can we look to that our Lord 'suffered' in order to learn obedience? Was it a suffering at the hands of sinners? If so can we say that He 'learned' the wisdom of the commandments first hand because he suffered the violence of men transgressing the law through His unjust treatment? Just thinking out loud here...

I don't exactly know. I've always had some trouble completely understanding this verse.

 Re:Double-Mindedness

Reply
A double minded person does not savor the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

A double man knows baby Jesus but cannot know The Risen Glorified Son of God.

Double minded men lost dominion over God’s earthly Kingdom..

A single minded son of David was given dominion over The Kingdom of God

God gave His Son to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that fills all in all and is the Lord of Lords for he must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For He hath put all things under His feet. But when He saith, all things are put under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him.

And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all....

To be double minded is too be in rebellion and hostile, having the spirit of antichrist and reject the gospel of the Kingdom of God and deny the truth ( Rock) that Jesus is the Son of God and God gave Him dominion over all things.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Christ Jesus.
