Bees are dying off. 60-70% missing on the East&West Coast. Spreading in Europe.

It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world's harvests fail.

They are putting forward the theory that radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world - the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops. Late last week, some bee-keepers claimed that the phenomenon - which started in the US, then spread to continental Europe - was beginning to hit Britain as well.

The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees' navigation systems, preventing the famously homeloving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up.

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) occurs when a hive's inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers, like so many apian Mary Celestes. The vanished bees are never found, but thought to die singly far from home. The parasites, wildlife and other bees that normally raid the honey and pollen left behind when a colony dies, refuse to go anywhere near the abandoned hives.

The alarm was first sounded last autumn, but has now hit half of all American states. The West Coast is thought to have lost 60 per cent of its commercial bee population, with 70 per cent missing on the East Coast.

CCD has since spread to Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. And last week John Chapple, one of London's biggest bee-keepers, announced that 23 of his 40 hives have been abruptly abandoned.

Other apiarists have recorded losses in Scotland, Wales and north-west England, but the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs insisted: "There is absolutely no evidence of CCD in the UK."

The implications of the spread are alarming. Most of the world's crops depend on pollination by bees. Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left".

No one knows why it is happening. Theories involving mites, pesticides, global warming and GM crops have been proposed, but all have drawbacks.

German research has long shown that bees' behaviour changes near power lines.

Now a limited study at Landau University has found that bees refuse to return to their hives when mobile phones are placed nearby. Dr Jochen Kuhn, who carried it out, said this could provide a "hint" to a possible cause.

Dr George Carlo, who headed a massive study by the US government and mobile phone industry of hazards from mobiles in the Nineties, said: "I am convinced the possibility is real."

All this information technology seems to be deadly in more ways than we know...

I wonder how this works out in rural areas where many folk don't have cell phones. Is this the result of the cell phone activity going on cross country or does it require phones to be close to the farmers fields?

The article on CNN stated that the problem mostly effects sweet fruits and not our staple foods. Interesting how it is 'fruit' production that is effected. I'm sure there is a spiritual lesson here.

 Re:

Isn't a nation that relieth on the increase of the fields as the goodly brethren (Israel) here in the U.S.A? Some would try to put Dueternomy 28 and it's curses upon those that doeth good. And I believe that the bees being taken away and the recent murthers as examples upon our misdeeds.
Back to the creature, that the hand of God created for Adam (how we have liked sinned and deny it), forgetting the he casteth the old sinnes behind his back?Romans 8:22 For we know that every creature groaneth with us also, and travaileth in pain even unto this time. (W.TN.T)
Jeremy 8:12-14_
12 Fie for shame, how abominable things do they? and yet they be not ashamed, yea they know of no shame. Wherefore in the time of their visitation, they shall fall among the dead bodies, sayeth the LORD.
8:13
Moreover I will gather them in (sayeth the LORD) so that there shall not be one grape upon the vine, neither one fig upon the fig tree, and the leaves shall be plucked off. Then will I cause them to depart, and say:
8:14
why prolong we the time? Let us gather ourselves together, and go into the strong city, there shall we be in rest: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water mixt with gall, to drink: because we have sinned against him (1537 matthew's faithofgod.net)
Bees, used to fear me, but once God cleansed me and clothed me, the bees are almost at command. Well to every sinner that says he is righteous, you will ever have few bees for your crops or wasps to fear thee and thy evil children.
If thou wouldest be learned, and understand and great blessing might come upon thee for going 'beyond' the KingJames 1611 or 1769 bible.

It seems that many of the missing bees are simply hiding out in my shed, taunting me to come in for a gardening tool...

Amen.

Most, if not all, man-made modern technology, no matter what its intentions, sure affect our spiritual fruits. I'm sure the internet started out to try and help people get information quicker, but look at the stuff that's on it now.

Anyone else getting to the stage where anything you are doing that doesn't involve God feels empty and pointless? Homework, music, internet, friends, money. None of it satisfies.

May God give me the strength to stick by his side and not get distracted, for His glory.

 Re:

If a cell phone keeps bees away from their hives, imagine what cell phone towers in farmers' fields must do to them...

Or a city where one out of five adults have a laptop with wireless capablility...

Or a city where every residential block has five or more wireless routers...

I've always loved bees. This is tragic.

If bees are harmed what must this do to humans?
