 Point of Contact

Christian Conduct
Attitude under fire

James 1:19-20
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

“Your Attitude determines your altitude” Thus saith the Lord

When things get wild, do you also?
Are you hot under the collar? Or cool as a cucumber when things go wrong?

James 1:26
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

James 1:2-4
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Heb 13:1-2
13:1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Do we show our flesh attitudes when things don’t go our way? Who is watching us?
What does it do to our witness? What does it do to Jesus? What does it do to our Father?
A look on our face sometimes is the biggest indication what attitude we are in. Its not always a word. A look is sometimes the biggest sign we give when we are frustrated, or angry, or hurt.
But God gives us specifics on how to behave on a daily moment by moment basis.
He wasn’t just giving these to hear Himself talk! He meant them.
Because it brings us peace, and inner joy and contentment in Him, and it brings others to the knowledge of Christ, through our witness. It brings Salvation to the lost!

What happens when we are witnessing to someone, and then two weeks or even longer down the road, we begin to complain or show frustration about something and start gossiping about the situation instead of taking it directly to God? In other words, we begin to act human again in our dealings with earthly situations?
I can tell you this, it really does start to ruin a perfect witness that the Lord started through us, and its hard to get someone to believe you again, when you do this.
Even though we make mistakes and we are not perfect, we are to strive for that.

God says,

Lev 20:7
7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.

Jesus also says,

1 Peter 1:15-16
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

If God says it, it means we can do it! How? Because Jesus lives in us! He is with us all the time and gives us the strength and courage and peace and love to do the impossible through Him!

We might think we cannot do something, but Jesus says we can!

This includes being quiet, and able to hold our tongues under fire. When people hurt us with their words, or strike us, or run from us because of our faith and our love for God. When people accuse us of things we didn’t do, or talk behind our backs. When friends turn on us, when parents turn on us, when siblings turn on us, when we feel alone, or mocked, or abused…….when we lose someone through death, when we don’t understand a situation and feel we need to vent………
Its during the hardest times in our lives, that we need to show Godly attitudes and reactions, relying fully on God, and thereby showing the world, that we are different.
For the world does things differently than we all do. They react negatively. We are to show positive attitudes, with a full reliance upon God to take care of all situations. No matter what the situation is. After all, nothing is impossible for God!

Jesus said we would be tempted, but He also said we would overcome that temptation.
For HE did! So if JESUS did, and HE lives in us, it means WE can too!

RESIST the devil (temptation ) and he shall flee from you!

1 Cor 10:13
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

James 1:13-14
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

So, having said all that, we need to really be truthful with ourselves about how we are in front of others.
We need to be very truthful about how we are behind closed doors, when God hears us and all of heaven also!

Why do you think He said this?

Heb 4:12
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

He knows our hearts. He hears our thoughts. He feels our emotions and heart, and hears our heart.

Prov 15:3
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Ps 44:21
21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Prov 17:3
3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

Ps 12:2-3
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

Ps 51:17
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

It comes to mind, what are the works of the flesh?

Gal 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

What is the fruit of the Spirit?

Gal 5:22-26
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

And to make a point clear, here is what God hates! Yes I said, hates.

Prov 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Prov 8:13
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Prov 16:2-6
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Now lets tie it up!
What exactly IS point of contact?

Point of Contact is what people first see and hear when they come into your presence.

When you see them in the grocery store, when you see them in the bank, or in the park,
When you see them in the movie theatre, or the work place…….
Its what they perceive the moment they lay eyes on you. Its your body language, facial expressions and its how you talk! From there its how you react to what is being said. They will watch your body language, hear your words, and see your facial expressions to what THEY are saying! Its highly important that we keep ourselves in check especially when things get tense! That is extremely important!

Once we show them WHO we are in Christ by how we act and react and interact to things (and that includes NOT joining into gossip, or fault finding or judging),
THAT is the point of contact.

Now we have to be careful NOT to lose that initial contact and end up spoiling that witness………..
Because we never know when a person is going to show up.
OR overhear our words when we are reacting negatively.

One Preacher said, “you can take it to the bank, when you have a fit, there will be someone around to see you do it!” Its very true!
It can make or break a Ministry too! That’s why we have to stay in Gods word, and learn the right things to do, so that we stay on track, and keep that point of contact pure and without contamination! So that GOD is always shown in the proper light
and is Glorified!

Make sure it blesses our Father, and blesses others.

I pray this blesses you.
God Bless you
