Problem with SI audio and video downloads

Hi

I suspect the problem is with my settings but Windows Media Player won't play anything, even though I'm fully connected.

The following error message comes up every time.

Quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the server is not responding. If you entered a URL or path to play the file, verify that it is correct. If you clicked a link to play the file, the link may not be valid.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the error information:

0xC00D11B3: Encountered a network problem
Windows Media Player encountered a network problem. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

The server is down or busy. Try connecting to the server again later.
You are not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again.
The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
To verify your proxy server settings
On the Tools menu, click Options, click the Network tab, and then verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
Note

If you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).
If you are connected to the Internet through a dial-up connection, you may not be able to choose the proxy server. For more information, consult your Internet service provider or network administrator.
Error ID = 0xC00D11B3, Condition ID = 0x00000000

I have Broadband, and Windows XP, so the dial up info isn't relevant.

The trouble is that i don't know which Tools menu they are talking about, or how to find the Network Tab, or what a Protocol is!

Do they mean a tab on Media Player, or do I look in Control Panel, or where?

I tried going to Internet Options and Network Connections on the Control Panel, but couldn't find a Network Tab or a Protocol. Unless the Network Connections is the same as a Tab? :-?

The more I try to find it the more muddled I get! :-(

Thanks

Jeannette

What exact videos are you trying to access and aren't working?

Thank you.

I would download the file, rather than streaming.

Right click on the link and click "save target as" to save it.

No audio or video will work, only text downloads. That's why I suspect its my configurations.

Will try PP's suggestion and see what happens.

(don't know what "streaming" is either :-? )
As you see I'm a bit computer illiterate!

Thanks for such a quick response

 Re:

EDIT:I need to read closer! My post was nonsense because I missed what you were saying...

EDIT2: Streaming is when you listen while you are downloading.

Oops, spoke too soon. I tried to open one in Real Player and it shut my Internet Explorer down. Something wrong with Real Player it seems, but couldn't open the site either.

Would it be a good idea to reinstall it?

Videos seem OK thought
