Prayer News from a source close to Brother Yun
Dear Prayer Partners,
There has been an increased activity of arrests and persecution in China the last months, especially in Henan, the province where Brother Yun comes from. This is one of the provinces with the largest number of Christians in China but also an area where persecution has been severe for a long time. We have enclosed a news report from China Aid, an American organisation focusing on human rights and speaking for persecuted Christians in Asia. Our calling is not to work against the Chinese government but to work for Jesus Christ. Eventually, He will reign over all nations and people groups.
Zeng Guangbo, a Chinese house church leader from Nanyang city, Henan province was re-arrested on March 1, 2004 while trying to pass the Inner-Mongolia border to Russia for a house church ministry there. According to an eyewitness, Zeng was taken away by Nanyang PSB two hours after he was detained at that customs. Zeng, 36, was first arrested on Jan. 25 but managed to escape several days later. He was expelled from his work unit in Beijing as a military policeman in 1988 because of involvement in underground House Church movement. It is reported that Zengs passport number had since been put into the national customs computer system which caused his recent arrest.
Bob Fu, the President of China Aid Association is deeply concerned about Mr. Zengs situation since he is in the hands of Nanyang PSB, Henan province. He says, The police in Nanyang are notorious for their brutality towards house church Christians. Because Zeng has been closely working with the Born-again Movement leader Ms. Xu Yongling, the police may use whatever means necessary including torture to get information from him.
Also, according to reliable sources, Ms. Xu Yongling, known as Deborah in the West, was also arrested on Jan. 25 and now is confirmed in the custody of the Henan National Security Bureau. Xu was finally allowed to talk with her relatives in Nanyang on March 5. In a supervised phone conversation she indicated that the police might use a false promise to trap her nephew if he comes to bail her out. Her last and only words to the relatives were Please be very careful of your decision! On March 6, Xus nephews home was raided again by Nanyang police.
Please pray for:
Deborah Xu, as she faces trial and a possible long prison sentence. Many organisations outside is working for her release, and we know that everything is in Gods hands. Pray for her that she will be strengthened and encouraged by our prayers and the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit in her cell and interrogation rooms.
Brother Zeng, as he was caught again after escaping. Pray that he will be brave and full of Gods love that overcomes any circumstances. Pray that despite of physical or mental pain, that the name of Jesus will be glorified through our brother.
All our brother and sisters that has been arrested, facing an uncertain future from a human perspective but a glorious one in the eyes of God. Pray that they will act with boldness and humility, reflecting the image of Jesus.
The PSB officers and other officials, that they may know that the Lord is God and that He is full of mercy and grace.
