 Should Christians Watch Hollywood Movies?

Eph. 5 has a list of sins and then it tells Christians not to be partakers in them. I was just wondering what you all thought of this chapter in relation to Hollywood movies? Should we even be watching the so called "clean" ones, because even just watching a Disney movies is supporting an industry that is full of filth?

Should be a movie by movie decision. If a movie contains words or images that are not edifying to a Christian then let that Christian not watch that movie.

There are movies that do not contain inappropriate scenes and dialog (albeit very few) that are fine to enjoy.

Let each person listen to the Holy Spirit.

 Re:

well i see it this way and as i understand Satan's plans to destroy us he has entertainment....among other things

if you like porn and other xxx sort of entertainment he got that for you...

if you are not into that kind of entertainment he go some "cleaner" entertainment, things that draw you from the bible and from your knees
they all do the same thing....., some is more "sinful" to us then other He even has religious entertainment but the result is you have less time to do things that really matter in the light of eternity

like spend time whit our savior,

and frankly who want to see a movie when we can behold his Glory?

Re: Should Christians Watch Hollywood Movies?

This is a tough decision to make. There is a theater near us that runs movies just before they go to DVD... $1 during the week, $2 on weekends... $30 for popcorn (just kidding about the popcorn!)

In that case, I dont mind spending $1 to see a movie in the theater, as long as it's not a movie that is going to cause me to sin against my Heavenly Father in my mind and spirit. In other words... a clean movie. (and I have a high standard for what I consider a "clean" movie to be) Friday night my wife and I went out for a nice steak dinner, then went and saw The Nativity Story for $4. (Our steak dinners set me back $51.63!)

I'm looking forward to seeing Rocky 6 when it's showing there in a few weeks. (Big Rocky fan, I am)

Obviously we have no business filling our minds with the world's trash. Instead of wasting time watching and justifying the world's garbage can (the movie industry) we could be doing something to reach others for Christ.

But let's also agree that there is a time for relaxing and taking our wives out on a date... and maybe going to see a clean movie.

I understand what you're saying here... but let me ask this... should you be buying milk from a store that also sells beer and smokes? Should you be driving a car that burns gas that helps support terrorists? Should you pay for an internet service that allows porn to be readily available to you and your family? Should you pay taxes to a government that is funding Planned Parenthood?

If we use the reasoning you used, we'd be sinning every single day by just buying milk.

I dont disagree with you. I'm just saying that that line of reasoning is not a good one.

 Re:

Just enjoy Adam Clarkes comment on this passage!!

Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

For ye were sometimes (ποτε, formerly) darkness - While ye lived in darkness, ye lived in these crimes.
But now are ye light in the Lord - When ye were in heathenish darkness ye served divers lusts and pleasures, but now ye have the light - the wisdom and teaching which come from God; therefore walk as children of the light - let the world see that ye are not slaves to the flesh, but free, willing, rational servants of the Most High; not brutish followers of devil gods.

 Re:

Krispy:

I'm not picking on you but you mentioned you will see clean movies and will go to see the new Rocky movie. Do you consider this to be a clean movie based on the information about the movies content below stated by screenit.com.

I'm not trying to pick a debate from you, I'm just curious as to what you think of it and maybe cause us all to consider what is clean for us versus clean before the Lord.

Mike

***Edited Post***

Sorry, poor judgement on my part.

I'm sorry. I just realized that some may find it inappropriate to even have posted the contents of the Rocky movie on my previous post.

If the moderators feel that is the case then I ask that they please edit or delete my post and accept my apology.

Milk and gas you need to survive, but amsuement you don't. So, I will go to Wal-mart and by my milk even if they do sell porn and I will get gas that is bought from Muslims, but entertainment I wll not do. What I'm saying is that for a non-essential movie I will not support an industry that supports homosexuality, adultrey, fornication, swearing, and the list goes on, but I will buy food from a store that sells porn because you need it to live.

 Re:

5nva... I appreciate you challenging me on that. (by the way... I would suggest you remove the content... you can do that yourself, I dont think you need to ask the moderator's to do it for you)

Let me clarify that before I watch a movie I go to several websites that specialize in telling families the content of the movie... just like you did.

I had not done that with Rocky... and I spoke a little too soon in my post, and in retro-spect I probably could have left that out. But I'm not perfect.

And to be frank with you, since that is in the movie, I will not be seeing it. (altho, I dont consider calling someone a "bum", if they are in fact a "bum", to be profane)

So, I was lax in my post. I am not recommending Rocky 6 to anyone, and I will not be seeing it myself...

So, thanx again for your challenge. I should have been more cautious and more clear about how I screen movies.

 Re:

its not that I'm saying don't ever watch TV, or don't ever watch movies, it is like you are saying we have to be careful, and i see how reasoning like this can get taken in a wrong way, i just want people to be "watchful" over what they look at,

for example i have family members in my own house who have no problem watching Hollywood movies, but i cant, i feel thats not for me, and as for the milk thing, i understand what you are saying.... but mmmmm i still think we more sort of making a direct choice concerning what we watch on film and so on, my opinion on this is that i don't believe its healthy spiritually for a Christian to be watching the "majority" of what is out there, thats my opinion, there are movies that are good, there are TV programs that are good,

I'm thinking of this story long time ago.... don't remember it exactly but it sort of goes like this...

a woman raises her two sons, she was a good Christian woman, she tried to raise them as Christians, but when they got older the boarded a ship and went away looking for adventure, she couldn't see what went wrong until she realized that in their dinning room on one wall was a big painting of a ship out to sea, and the two young boys had seen that painting growing up and they followed that what they had been watching,

i believe it is from one of R A Torrey's books?
but I'm just saying most of the entertainment will draw you away from Christ, i cant speak for anyone else but as for me that is a fact, i almost never watch TV or so, the things i watch is some cartoons whit my kids, i have a hard time whit some of the cartoons to!

but we need god judgments on this, its for everyone to decide for themselfs....

but say what you want, if you spent every minute we have watched tv....instead we had been on our knees , i bet our spiritual walk had been just a little bit better.... or what do you think?
