Do you have a key verse for the year?

A tradition at my church is picking a personal key verse for the year that summarizes our spiritual aspirations for the coming year.

I don't know if other believers have such traditions, but I wanted to find out what others do, and what your verses are if you have one. Or maybe just resolutions...

My verse for 2006 was:
Romans 12: 1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Throughout 2006 my spiritual goal was to have a greater knowledge of sanctification and to be more disciplined, althought I can see some measured progress, through this search I was shown just how deep some of my sin is, and that I must not give up the fight!

For 2007 I have a similar but more difficult verse, because it gets to the heart of a lot of my problems.

Ephesians 4:1-3 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

I am not humble, or gentle, or patient, or loving, and rarely peaceful... I didn't want to pick this verse, but I really felt the Spirit leading me to make this my verse for the year and to have this be the focus of my spiritual development for the year. I want to be an encourager and not a divider!

What spiritual goals or aspirations do you have for the year 2007?

Hi bro iansmith ...

In 2006 the scripture was Heb. 4: 9-11 ... "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." ...

Learning to "Rest in the Lord" or "The Waiting Room" experience ...

In 2007 it's Rev. 3:8 ... "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."

i believe our Lord has given this scripture to me because He's about to summon me thru to a wider, more encompassing, ministry ...

Blessings in Jesus! :-D

Hey bro Daryl ...

Jer. 33: 3 is what in some Baptist circles is called my "life verse" ... When i first got saved i was told to pray to our Lord for a verse He would give me that would govern my new life in Him ... i did, and when i heard Jer. 33:3 it was like a bell going off ... This is a wonderful scripture in that God says, "Call unto me", but what still gives me goose bumps is, "and I will answer thee" ... Wow! ... For me this surely is the OT for-runner of Heb. 11:6 ...

Blessings in Jesus! :-D

Re: Do you have a key verse for the year?

in 2006 it was 2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

For this new year (which I praise the Lord for, 'cause it's going to be a good one!), it's James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

 Re:

Psalm 37:7a "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him..." (KJV)

And I like this paraphrase of the same verse

Psalm 37:7a "Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for Him to act..." (NLT)

And this verse which is so similar

Psalm 46:10a "Be still and know that I am God..." (KJV)

I hope the Lord speaks to you in His small still voice this year!! :-)

 Re: Jer 33:3

That scripture put me on my face and that's where this year has had me so far. Waiting on God while His Word searches my heart and calling on Him to see what He has that He wants to show me. That with Psalm 50 has been a really challenging read for me so far, but I believe we'll be seeing some really amazing manisfestations of God this year in increasing measures. Blessings in Christ Bro. daryl

Phillipians 1:6
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
