Re:

God told joshua to meditate on His word day and night. that sounds like a daily thing, actually that is more than what you are asking for. its not just once a day, but every day and night.

 Re:

Yes, I agree that God specifically told Joshua to do that. But let's clarify a few things. One, God specifically makes this statement to Joshua, right? But whose to say that you or I are required to live under that? Two, let's point out that God didn't say, "You have to read your Bible everyday." You'd have to move beyond what is plainly stated to make your conclusion. But what if your understanding/interpretation/application is off here? God may speak that to you through this verse, but do you have the authority to state what it means for someone else?

 Re:

Hi everyone.

Greetings Todd, I hope you are well.

Even though this may not answer your question, I wanted to share some verses for us to look at together and meditate on them.

After I read about your question I decided to read the 119th Psalm to see if there might be something like that which you asked about.

This verse stood out somewhat, where it says...

O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

And then, this seems to fit so well with it, from Deuteronomy...

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart

and, going back to Psalm 119...

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Brother, the sense that I get from these words is that we should seek to fill our hearts with God's Word so that, night or day, with, or without the printed page, we may feed and nourish our souls with them. What do you think?

What if, for instance, we were in prison, without our Bibles?

And then I think too how we must have the Living Word, Jesus, in our hearts. And I believe that He will truely feed and nourish our souls with Life through the Holy Spirit, even if we could not read the words of the Bible for some time.

Blessings brother and thank you for sharing.

Chris

 Re:

Chris,

I think you make some excellent points. I especially like your point about the Living Word.

I think about how James said to receive the Word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

Thanks for sharing.
