Separate from Sinners, Friend of Sinners

Hebrews tells us Jesus was holy and separate from sinners. In no way, shape, or form was our Christ tainted by the stains of this world. He was the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. Thank God for that. He was tempted in EVERY WAY, yet never engaged in it. He stood pure, holy, righteous and perfect in a perverted, wicked generation.

However, Jesus was a friend of sinners. Though he was the God incarnate, holy and "knew no sin", he befriended the sinner. Jesus was spoken even of by the Pharisee when he was caught with his disciples eating meals with tax collectors and sinners. He was spoken evil of at another time when the woman poured the alabaster jar over his feet. Their response was "don't you know what that woman was doing."

Christ is the express image of the Person of God, the brightness of His glory. We would do well to take heed to the ways of Christ during His earthly ministry.

THOUGH HE WAS GOD, HE TOUCHED THE UNTOUCHABLE, ASSOCIATED WITH THE OUTCAST, AND LOVED THE WICKED.

Sometimes in talks of revival, witnessing, street preaching, ministry, etc... I've known many times to miss the heart of Jesus behind it all. Jesus was a friend of sinners.

While we are called to walk holy and righteous, God is calling us out of our 4 walls to befriend the ungodly. Some people will never entered our cathedrals or church buildings, and some of them won't pay any attention to a street preaching. But they will look for friends. While the spoken word is important, very important, we must remember the importance of our character, our sincerity, and our willingess to love in deed and truth above all.

Thank God for the example of Christ to us
