Re: be clever about those news reports

For centuries people had enough to deal with from their own community and geographic troubles...today the moment something awful happens anywhere on the planet it gets technologically pumped into your brain. It's not natural.

It's nothing but a form of control.

Jesus had a clever way of hijacking the news reports of his day, and thus, he refused to be controlled. Check this out:

Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." Lk. 13

Notice how Jesus remained true to his calling. He loved his “neighbor – that is - those who were right there standing in front of him. He was concerned about their condition. Interestingly, this is also the way (good) psychiatrists work. They don’t let their clients control the conversation by diverting attention to the “sinners out there” - the ones who messed them up. They redirect the thoughts to the person sitting there in front of them – the log in their eye. Is that not the loving thing to do – love your neighbor?

I think of all those darling kids in that school. My, my, my! (to borrow Bartle’s words) I shutter to think of how much love they need, and how emotionally deprived they are - as they try to survive in an adult world driven by the media – all those parents who are more interested in the affairs of the world than the secret burdens of their own children or spouses.

I promise I won't use the word "gosh" anymore

Good boy, bartle! ....

I hate to take the feather out of your cap - but very likely there has not been one person on this planet who has been turned away from the Lord by such expletives. At least, that’s the “news” from my perspective. It seems like anyone who has deliberately walked away from the things of the Lord has blamed it on the hypocrites – those shiny people who claim to be Christians (take God’s name) but fail to portray his character. Of course, that’s old news. Paul said it a long time ago: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” Rom. 2: 24 – taken from Isaiah. Interesting, Paul aims that bullet to those who are reading his words – those he could/can influence. By chapter two of Romans he has moved beyond the sins of those “out there”.

May God help us be clever with the reports that fall on us – that we will not use them to damage our own minds, or the minds of others, but that we will, like Christ: love our neighbor.

Just how do we maintain a Godly perspective?
How do we keep our minds pure. (Phil. 4:18)
How do we keep love as our primary goal?

(If News reports aught to help us love the world better, then why did we fail so badly in Rawanda)
