| polygamy | | I found that even though people are wrong and twist scripture, they still make sense to ignorant or uneducated people of the word of god. and i wouldnt know enough to tell a polygamist that they are wrong, so i am asking what to do if i come across one...i saw an interesting thing they see...they say that christ says he came to fulfill the law and i do know that i have read in the bible where some people in the old testament have many wives and also it said in exodus 21 V 10 that a man can take along a 2nd wife or something like that...they do have some points but i know they are twisting it...so what do you think about that scripture and about what we should tell polygamist _________________ jesse

| Re: polygamy | | Mt 19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful * for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Mt 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, Mt 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be * one flesh? Mt 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Mt 19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away ? Mt 19:8 He saith unto them *, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts
without looking much i just thought of this... God, i think, allowed multiple wives for the same reason he allowed divorce. But from the beginning, it was not so!
And a man commits adultery for leaving his wife and taking another. This is because in God's eyes the two flesh's are still one flesh. So if they are married and still one flesh, if they take another wife, how much more is it adultery?
This should be sufficient, but i say, that if a man actually lives out polygamy, they are going to be tough in getting them to accept this. I would try for some more principal foundations of sin. Try to beat up their conscience a little on "he that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin." You are gauranteed to hit conscience there. Because everybody has a conscience. God bless! _________________ Matt Chenier

| Re: | | The greatest single verse against polygamy in the Bible is found in the ther sermon on the mount from the Lord Himself,
Matt 6:24(a) No man can serve two masters: :-P
Seriously though, MattChenier is right to quote Mt 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh.
man shall cleave to his wife (singular) and they twain (two not two or more) shal be one flesh.
I know a lot of great men of God were polygamists, Jacob, Elkanah (Samuels father) David, Solomon etc but can you find me one example of a polygamis marriage in the scriptures that didn't directly lead to intense family strife.
Poor Leah, the rightful and God honoured wife of Jacob who was favoured after her younger sister but the Lord blessed Leah with six sons, including Judah from whom came the Messiah.
Hannah wife of Elkanah who was barren to begin with but sought the Lord with all her heart and bore the great prophet Samuel, but not before being openly mocked by her husbands other wife.
David collected wives and so sowed the seeds of lust until they bore fruit adultery with Bathsheba, the murder of her husband Uriah, the murder of his eldest son after having an incestuous relationship with his sister, the rebellion of his son Absalom, and civil war that ultimately lead to the division of Judah and Israel, thats repercussions for you.
And Solomon well let the scriptures speak on this one, 1 Kings 11:3-4 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
Polygamy when we read between the lines in scripture is certainly not Gods way, and i would go so far as to call it what i personally think it is unbridled lust, if you have 2 why stop there?
