I've been attending bible study at my college for a few weeks now. Today I asked the head minister what church she goes to and she said the United Church of Christ.

I guess I never thought to ask because we study simple things in the gospels and I never heard anything wrong. There's many new believers in it and they keep it simple. The signs around campus just say "Bible Study 2:30pm on Tuesdays, Room 304".

So my question to you guys is what exactly is the UCC and why are they "a cult" (as I heard somebody put it)

It's too bad because it's the only bible study on our small campus and everybody in there is so new and hungry. Pray that when I leave, I bring them with me. To where? The Lord will lead.

I don't see much in there to raise any big red flags. (other than reformed doctrine :-P )

I don't know very much about the UCC but I believe that the person who referred to them as "a cult" might have confused them with the Church of Christ denomination. They have certain cultic beliefs such as that if you do not belong to thier denomination you are outside salvation, baptismal regeneration (one must be water baptised to be saved), and certain unorthodox teachings concerning the Holy Spirit. I know the first two are true, I don't know too much about the last one.
