"I would ban religion completely" - Elton John

I was just reading an article on CNN.com about Elton John saying that religion fuels hatred towards gays.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/13/britain.eltonjohn.ap/index.html

I understand why the world thinks us Christians hates them. Because of open-air preachers wearing shirts like "Homo's are Hell bound." Because of Christians referring to them as the 3-letter derogatory word beginning with F. Because the way we change our attitudes when it comes to evangelizing them.

The bottom line is that gay or not gay…. you still need Jesus. I wonder how Jesus himself would associate with homosexuals. Would there be any difference between the way he talked to a liar and a homosexual?

Santana, you've brought up a very sensitive issue among the Christian community. I agree with you!
We need to believe that every sinner including homosexuals have been atoned for thier sins.

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Quote:
Another Greek word, (hilasmos), is used for Christ as our propitiation. 1 John 2:2; 4:10, and for "atonement" in the Septuagint (Leviticus 25:9). The thought in the Old Testament sacrifices and in the New Testament fulfillment, is that Christ completely satisfied the just demands of a holy God for judgment on sin, by His death on the Cross of Calvary.

Our problem is that we do not understand what Jesus did for the whole wide world, we have no idea. Thats why the power of what Jesus did on the cross is so weak in the lives of us North Americans, we've become superstitious and bias and foolish in our reasonings. We want Christ to come back NOW because we see sin all around us as being rampant, but we have forgotten about that new law that came into being when Jesus Christ came. GRACE and TRUTH.
Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Did Christ atone for sin and satisfied God?
I have seen people who WERE gay told by the pastor not to testify of where they came out of, but the past druggie and drunkard can. Somethings wrong with this picture.

Elton John is right in his assumptions, God would agree with him. He shouldn't receive a hateful reaction from believers, the hope is Jesus Christ and Him crucified, not "Your going to hell you filthy fruitcake". I have heard this stuff all my life from hell bent preachers, this is wrong.

Paul didn't go into Athens to destroy the faith of the idolotors but to stir their hearts to reason and to consider the ONE God that they were ignorantly worshipping.

Do we tear down the Catholics faith or do we add to their faith, get them to think and rethink why they believe what they believe, or better yet, let them see your walk as a living epistle known and read of all men.

We have no idea what Elton John ever went thru in his early days to bring him to this conclusion, but I can see his reasons. Has anyone wondered that he might have looked into changing and found only condemnation. Children today brought up in condemnation, rebel against authority.

I am a christian, born again by the holy Spirit of God and I do not support the Christians stance towards homosexuals, I am sorry but it is wrong, it's bias and it's not the New Testement. And I have read Romans 1.

Let me clarify that, we have more mercy on the drunk, and the drug addict, but we have a hell sentence for homosexuals. We need to show mercy and if rejected, let them go. Perhaps down the road when they get into trouble, they might consider Christ. So that door should always be left open...............

 Re:

Praise Jesus!! Lion of Judah!!!

i don't suppose that Jesus would talk to them any differently than this.

Lu 13:4 "Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?
Lu 13:5 "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

i won't dispute that some take the issue of homosexual sin a bit far. But i don't see drunkards, theives or murderers lobbying to convince us that what they do isn't wrong. The Bible clearly states that the act of sodomy is an abomination and a sin. No more so than murder but no less. Al sinners will be cast into the lake of fire. i don't care what a state law or federal statute says. God says it is sin punishable by death. Unless the sinner repents and is saved by Christ.

 Re:

Before we all get mushy here... fact is that yes, many believers have treated gays in a manner that is not fitting for a believer. HOWEVER, most gays reject what the Bible does say about sin... their's in particular... and they consider straight up preaching against homosexuality to be "hate speech". In Canada you cant preach against homosexuality from the pulpit anymore. It wont be long and that's the way it'll be here in the US. The day freedom of speech is outlawed... I'll be an outlaw.

It's not that we're hateful... it's that they don't want to hear what the Bible says.

And it's not just gays, it's all of us. But now that they have pretty much gained "minority status" they want to ban anyone who would be critical of them. They want us to be "tolerant", but they are intolerant while forcing us to be tolerant.

I think Elton John is a hell bound fool. Not cuz he's gay, but becuz he has rejected God. I couldn't care less what a fool has to say. Neither should you, if you have Jesus in your heart.

And I always hated his music, even when I was a heathen... but I guess that isnt relevent to the conversation.

 Re:

I find it interesting that (as was mentioned earlier) the homosexual agenda is going into schools and telling children as young as 4 & 5 years old they might be gay, and to experiment to see if they are!!
Imagine if we went into a public school and started teaching children to experiment with rape, because they might be a rapist, you never now. Or go steal, go shoot up. Or in others words "Do what thou wilt"
I use this phrase because it according to Anton Lavey who authored the satanic bible is the whole of the law for them. This ideal has so permeated our country as men like Allister Crowley, Timothy Leary etc. set forth the satanic doctrine that was so sweeping in the 60's.
Something God spoke to me about just this morning is that we do not see the grievous nature of much of this, because we have grown numb to it. We have been surrounded by it for so long that it has become normal. Do we not now see why it is imperitive to claim and live in out new home. to view things in lieu of our new Parent and according to His statutes and not according to our numbed and dumbed consciences.
Oh may God quicken our hearts to grieve over the things that break His heart and stir His wrath that we may be intercessors for our generation!!

 Re:

Hey Roaringlamb... try an even more hideous thing... go into a government school and try telling the kids about Jesus. Bring a stop watch and time how long it takes to get escorted out.

Ahhh... there's no schoolin' like home schoolin'.

My kids have never been in a government school, and they never will be in a government school.

 Re:

Yes, that is what I was aiming at. But it seems to that because things cost so much many are unable to afford it.

Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

I would say God probably thinks that elton john fits the description of ungodly, sinner, scornful. Wouldn't you? :-(

In Canada you still can preach against homosexuality, it's just that no one has charged the preacher who preaches against it.

But overall I do agree with you Krispy. I am not for homosexuals don't get me wrong, I am just against this bias attiutude among believers that divide certain sins up into whats bad sins are what is worse than bad, God hath concluded all to be under sin.

But regarding Homeschooling it would be of great interest to me if you could tell me how you manage to work and homeschool at the same time?

Thank you

Re: "I would ban religion completely" - Elton John

I found this on another website.
Quote:
My suggestion is the Elton John be set down in the heart of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, next Ramadan, complete with his pink boa and his best high heels, and told to expound more fully on his ideas of banning organise religion. I think he then will find Christians to be a great deal more compassionate in the event he is able to get back to London in one piece.
End quote.

Let him speak out against Islam either here or abroad and let's see what happens.

How is it he can speak against Christianity, and you will find Christians agreeing with him?

For my part, he is justone tool of satan to divide and conquer Christians.

As long as we keep our mouths shut, and say nothing, everyone is happy with Christians. They are harmless, quiet, meaningless.

Homosexuality is a sin. Man made law would have us believe otherwise. Man changing the law changes nothing in God's eyes.

In one European nation, they have been trying to pass a law for over 20 years to make sex with children legal.

So, if they change the law, that makes it ok?

God help us.
