| Thou God of Glorious Majesty | | Oh, how we need extollments and confessions like this in our church services, our fellowships, our youth gatherings. This hymn is so deep, so searching, so brutally truthful and honest that it staggers and numbs my head! This is well nigh impossible to sing through without choking up in awe. I post it to both bless and sadden. Saints, be blessed indeed, but mourn also that this scriptural concept of God's eternal majesty is completely foreign to Christianity in our day.
Thou God of glorious majesty, To Thee, against myself, to Thee, A worm of earth, I cry; A half-awakened child of man; An heir of endless bliss or pain; A sinner born to die!
Lo! on a narrow neck of land, ’Twixt two unbounded seas I stand, Secure, insensible; A point of time, a moment’s space, Removes me to that heavenly place, Or shuts me up in hell.
O God, mine inmost soul convert! And deeply on my thoughtful heart Eternal things impress: Give me to feel their solemn weight, And tremble on the brink of fate, And wake to righteousness.
Before me place, in dread array, The pomp of that tremendous day, When Thou with clouds shalt come, To judge the nations at Thy bar; And tell me, Lord, shall I be there To meet a joyful doom?
Be this my one great business here, With serious industry and fear Eternal bliss to ensure; Thine utmost counsel to fulfill, And suffer all Thy righteous will, And to the end endure.
Then, Savior, then my soul receive, Transported from this vale to live And reign with Thee above; Where faith is sweetly lost in sight, And hope in full supreme delight, And everlasting love.
- Charles Wesley

| Re: Thou God of Glorious Majesty | | 83 years after Charles Wesley went to be with the Lord..we're gifted with:
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live: If Jordan above me shall roll, No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
But, Lord, tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait, The sky, not the grave, is our goal; Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord! Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul.

| Re: | | Yes, Mamaluk,
"It is Well with My Soul" is one of my all-time favorites. The story of its genesis is heart-wrenching. Spafford and his daughters. I have a video of Ravenhill singing this hymn after teaching on the glory of God. He was recovering from a stroke at the time, and had to remain seated. But, oh, such unction. Such marvel and wisdom and anointing. And when he and the guys from Last Days Ministries began this hymn...the timeless presence of God the Holy Ghost just filled the hall. So tangible, so awesome.

| Re: | | It almost seemed unfair to Mr. Spafford, to have had lost 4 children in gifting us this piece of comfort of all time, didn't it?
How can anyone sing this without getting all choked up and reassured of Grace simultaneously, afterall, Majesty is grace magnified beyond human comprehension.
" whatever my lot, Thou has taught ( quite a bit of doctrine right here !! :) ) me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul "
Paul, thanks for always sharing these treasures from not so long ago..
God bless !

| Re: | | spafford reminds me of job.
Job 1:20-22
20Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and WORSHIPPED,
21And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
22In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
wow! how they were so devoted to God. such faith! thats beautiful!
Lord, i pray i would be so faithful to You like these men. no matter how big the trials, continue to refine me until i am all Yours. where i will be able to lift my voice and worship You even in the darkest hours!
God, You are glorious! _________________ Lisa
