I am not as concerned about the instruments in the church, Psalms instruct us to praise God with instruments: trumpets, timbrals, harps, lyres etc. David included all the instruments known to Israel, I'm sure he'd say Priase the Lord with electric guitar, bass and drums if he were here today.

My problem comes with the vapid lyrics of today, like Licoln Brewsters "What a Friend I've Found":
What a friend I've found

Closer than a brother
I have felt your touch
More intimate than lovers

Jesus, Jesus
Jesus, friend forever

What a hope I've found
More faithful than a mother
It would break my heart
To ever lose each other

This could be sung to anyone! It's Jesus my buddy, not my crucified Savior. Compare:

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from his head, his hands, his feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did ever such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

I'm not saying that there hasn't been a good song written in the last three or four hundred years, there are fine songs out there today. We just need more of them.
