 kidnapping in Iraq

SI members,

An old Quaker friend of mine serving on a Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraq was kidnapped Saturday along with three other CPT members. I cannot release his name here as his family has not released it to the press at this time. Please pray that they be released in good health. Thanks, Bubbaguy

 Re: kidnapping in Iraq

Lord release them by the power of your Son's name! May they be able to share a testimony with the saints of God of the powerful keeping power of God.

Bubba,

So sorry to hear this. A lady who knows the Englishman in the party was very upset in the interview broadcast by the BBC. No wonder. I will pray.

 Re:

They released the identities of those kidnapped today in the press. Apparently al-Jazeera broadcast a video. It confirmed my fears about my friend, Tom Fox. Here is a link to a Washington Post article on this. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/29/AR2005112900771.html

Please keep them all in your prayers.

Here's more on Tom Fox from today's Washington Post.

No word yet as to his return, however I heard that the hostage takers are asking Christian Peacemaker Teams for proof of their identities, which likely means they are still alive. Please keep praying about this.

 Re:

Vom is speaking about this as well. This is from the last email that I received

"5. Four Christian Peace Activists Kidnapped in Iraq

A previously unknown group, calling themselves the "Swords of Righteousness
Brigade" has kidnapped four Christian peace activists in Baghdad. The four were members of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), an organization dedicated to offering "an organized, nonviolent alternative to war and other forms of lethal inter-group conflict." A video of the captives was broadcast on
Al-Jazeera television on November 29 where they were accused of being spies.
Those kidnapped are two Canadians, Jim Loney (41) and Harmeet Singh
Sooden
(32), a Briton, Norman Kember (74) and an American, Tim Fox (54).

Pray that the men will be allowed to safely return home. Pray for their
protection while they are in captivity. Pray also that they will
clearly
display the love of Christ to their captors.

 Re:

Christian Peacemakers Teams has released a statement about the four people abducted. You can see it here. http://www.cpt.org/

Friends Committee on National Legislation (my employer) has also released a statement which you can find here.

Your prayers are much appreciated.

 Re:

I just got word that the kidnappers are demanding that all US detainees in Iraq must be released or they will kill the four Christian Peacemaker Team members. Obviously, the US will not comply with this and so it looks very bad at this time. Please keep praying on this.
