Thank you i go to church

This is really a question for all of us who are open air evangelists, specifically people who hand out gospel tracts,

many, many, many, many times when giving out tratcs i get the response, 'Thank you i go to church' sometimes I'll respond 'Are you saved?' sometimes if their walking away I'll say 'Oh good', I'm ever aware that church-goers are not always saved and in some ways, sadly, can be more lost than a non church-goer.

Just looking for advice from the open air wing of the SI community,

how do YOU respond to 'Thank you i go to church'

Re: Thank you i go to church

I ask them how long they have been born again... If they don't know... well then they haven't been.

Or I ask them about their relationship with God... how did it start... how is their prayer/study time.. how often do they witness and how do they do it..

Usually after a few questions you can find out alot about their walk. If there is one.. or if there isn't...

 Re:

If they do have a relationship with God.. I start talking about holiness and things of that sort.. eventually to encourage them to witness and go on with God.

 Re:

Good response Josh, I too get the 'I'm a Christian' brush off, though I find if they are 'good' Christians they will stop and ask us about our walk, to make sure we are not JW's or the like. When we get talking they often say 'you are brave doing this' and I reply 'no, we're obedient' and that gives us an opening to encourage them to do more than just 'non-verbal' evangelism.

The classic answer used to be "I go to MacDonalds but I'm not a hamburger"

bit too sarcastic thought that one, if I'm going to get hit or yelled at I'd prefer it to be for preaching the Word ;-)

yea this is what i ask too, also when they are saying they have a christian background.

Also to get them out of the illusion that they think they are a christian when you have parents who are christians, or placed them at a christian school.

however, God hasn't got grandchilderen.

no, it's not sarcastic unless it's intended to be sarcastic. If you say it with a smile you may get one in return. I never use sarcasm; it is the devil's humour.

 Re:

I've used that line and it works :-)

I also ask them what Jesus Christ has been speaking to them lately.
