The most holy men, when once they have fixed their eyes awhile upon God's holiness, and then looked upon themselves, have been quite out of love with themselves." - William Gurnall

| Re: | | "And the point we made was that the law there were commands under the Old Covenant are going to become promises under the New Covenant. He fulfills them. When it used to say, You shall not steal as a command, it now says, You shall not steal as a promise. It used to say, You shall not commit adultery as a command. It says, You shall not commit adultery as a promise, because the Spirit of God living in us never steals, is never covetous, never is unfaithful. And the Spirit in us now fulfills the law and the commands become promises. And its important that we grasp that."

| Re: | | "Idolatry is any religious practice that gives mankind a measure of religious and emotional satisfaction, and that alleviates their conscience and requires nothing from them. Religion is the propensity of men to take the holiest things of God in all of their well-meaning intention, and so to transfigure them as to rob them of their cogency and power. Religion is nothing more than something that establishes a status quo and keeps mankind from the knowledge of the truth. You do not need God for religion, because religion has a measure of efficacy of bringing to mankind certain benevolences and a toning affect, and gives one emotional, ethical or moral inspirations that are good. But you do not need to have a God for that." - Art Katz |

He clothes his captains in religious garments and houses his weapons in temples. Legalism is a more dangerous disease than alcoholism because it doesn't look like one. Alcoholism makes men fail; legalism helps them succeed in the world. Alcoholism makes men depend on the bottle; legalism makes them self-sufficient, depending on no one. Alcoholism destroys moral resolve; legalism gives it strength. Alcoholics don't feel welcome in the church; legalists love to hear their morality extolled in church." - John Piper

They recognize the need for doing away with their outwards sins, but they insist that King Agag himself has some useful resources. And this is why the bleating of the old carnal nature continues to be heard in the background. Yes, these individuals can work hard through their own efforts to conform to high moral standards, as did the Pharisees, but there is still something within their inner nature that prevents Christs life of perfect love from being displayed." ~ Steve Bray

Online! | Re: | | Preachers who have homes and cottages by the lake, a boat on that lake, and a big bank balance, still beg for more
These dear, doll-like preachers-boys no longer change their suits once a day, but two or three times a day. They preach the Jesus of the stables, but themselves live in swank hotels. For their own lusts they bleed the audience financially in the name of the One who had to borrow a penny to illustrate His sermon. They wear expensive Hollywood suits in honor of One who wore a peasants robe
