My wife...

Dear Saints,

Some of you know that my wife and I have been married for a little over a year. During that time we have prayed for and have been trying to have a baby. Since I met my wife, she has always had stomach problems, especially during her menstruation. Having never seen a gynecologist, she had always been reluctant to go, even by my encouragements. Last week, she finally agreed to go for a check-up.

Unfortunately (I'm reluctant to write that word, because I know God has everything under control),they found several cysts on her right ovary, but more troublesome was the large one on her left ovary. The doctor took some blood work and some other tests and asked us to come back within a month; after her next cycle. Since the visit, I have searched the Internet and have asked my mom about this and it seems to be 'no big deal' and 'quite common'.

Understanding that to be the case, I felt more at ease, but then today the doctor phoned back to say that my wife needs a shot (needle), to help protect any potential pregnancy which we may have, for she is lacking something in her body. Apparently (my info is just second hand information from a quick telephone conversation, translated into English from Korean), we will have to use contraceptives for the next three to five months, because there is a high likelihood that pregnancy within this period would result in a handicapped (i am not sure of the proper word) child.

As I am still in the dark about most of this, I would just appreciate some Saintly prayers. Maybe some or most of you, especially 'moms and dads' have experience in this area. For the rest of you...some good old prayer would be nice.

Blessings,
Brian and Mira... hense BrianMira

p.s. There is a definate lesson to be learned...since I thought she just had bad PMS...men take note. :-( :-) :-(

 Re: My wife...

Brian, is your wife suffering from endometriosis? If so, I'm going to provide some links. The pain from endo can be moderate to debilitating (eg; pain almost every day and the pain can be very bad). Please do not take it lightly although endo is not that uncommon. There's no known cure for it.

Birth control pills and shots such as lupron have bad side effects such as loss of bone etc. Some never seem to recover from the side effects while some only have minimal side effects. Some do surgeries while some prefer natural treatment such as eating healthy foods instead of taking birth control and things such as lupron.

Giving birth actually cause endometriosis to be in remission for a while though it does not cure it.

Please really read. Those sites which I've provided are good. If planning on surgeries, please also read what type of surgeries to go for.

Praying

 Re: My wife...

I'm very sorry to hear about all this, Brian. I'll be keeping you and your wife in my prayers. My wife is pregnant right now, and she's going through an extremely hard pregnancy. She's been out for work for over two months, and had to have gall bladder surgery a few weeks ago. She's still sore. They also found e. coli in her urinary bladder and she's lost over 30 pounds since late July. But this post isn't about me or Marissa or any of our problems.

Brother, the Lord will see us through no matter what happens, just like the Lord will see you and your precious wife though - no matter what happens. In the face of barreness and complications the strength of our Lord shines forth like the sun. There's something about barreness and difficult pregnacies (or not being able to conceive) that God uses to show His strength; whether it be with Abraham and barren Sarah, Jacob and barren Rachel, Jabez's painful birth, Hannah's barreness (the mother of Samuel), Manoah's barren wife (the mother of Samson), Elisha and the barren Shunammite, Elizabeth's barreness (John the Baptist's mother), and of course, the most miraculous birth of all which is our Lord coming forth from a virgin womb.

So, you see, we're in good company...and even better Hands.

:-)

Brother Paul

 Re:

Praying for your wives Paul and Brian. I was very sick with all five of my pregnancies, it was alot of time of resting and trusting. It was so bad I wanted to drive off a bridge and even thought about it as I was driving myself to the hospital. I know I wouldn't have done it but I was not in my right mind having gone months without nourishment or any rest. God knows though how much you can endure and will not suffer you to be tempted above what you can bear.(1 Cor. 10:13)

All five were like this? Yes, I remember you telling me. Rebecca, you're a strong, strong woman. My dear wife is nearly traumatized as it is, and has vowed this child will be our first and last (God has an interesting way of making us eat our words :). Seriously, I wouldn't want to see her go through something like this again. She had surgery three weeks ago and is still very sick - taking out the defunct gall bladder was supposed to ameliorate the hyperemesis, not intensify it - and she is still vomitting almost incessantly. She's vomitted so much that her esophagus is burnt by all the hydrochloric acid coming up, and her throat bleeds.

I can't imagine going through something like ths 5 times. My wife calls it the "curse of Eve", and through it all she accepts God's judgment...but this doesn't stop the physical misery. Incidentally, the baby is doing very well; we took an ultrasound a week after the surgery and the baby is healthy and dancing around - and even smiling (at 15 weeks).

God is in total control, and God is in control of Brian and his wife too.

 Re:

To Brian,
If your wife doesn't like doctors/medicine, what i'm about to say mayn't make much difference but using oral contraceptives especially for a short period as her doc is a good strategy. The Lord does use doctors to help us. The side effects of OCPs are usually seen depending on dosage and long time use.
Since she's in such discomfort, I wouldn't ignore it as usual pain relievers mayn't help her.
Bottom line: please explore the docs recommendation.

To PaulWest:
Has her OB suggested 'Ondansetron'? It's a powerful medication used for folks with very bad vomiting. Your wife's hyperemesis may respond to it.

Neither of you can really understand how your wives feel but the One who knows is more than able to give you peace.

SHALOM.

 Re:

Brian,

Blessings. My sister and i have gone through the same thing. She had surgery for hers to be removed about 2 yrs ago. She has never been married and she had to take contraceptives to help the cyst not to come back. She went to the doctor and everything seems to be going well. SHe still has some pain but not as extreme as she used to have it. I had surgery about a month ago and the doctor also gave me the pills. I never had such extreme pain and that is the reason why i never even noticed anything wrong with me.

I know this can be very "scary" but days before the surgery the Lord gave me this verse one day sitting at church. Mark 5:34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

I had such peace the Lord gave me. May the Lord guide and take control over this situation. Praying for you and your wife.

 Re:

Brian, I suggest you really check out the sites that I've given to you.

There are doctors specialising in endometriosis only and they will be way better to know what type of surgery etc to do. For example, if surgery is required, it should be cutting away the endo instead of ablation technique which will not get the deeper part of the endo. Gynaecologists may not know this for example.
Just an example.

Also, the site will also tell those that have positive and negative effects on things such as BCP, lupron etc.

Yea, I like that quote in "Rocky" even though I don't like the movie anymore:

"I didn't hear any bell yet!" :-D

That is a good quote! :-) But I wasn't saying that when I was sick.

I had the same symptoms she has. I have heard of women breaking ribs throwing up. That's the thing is you are throwing up with an empty stomach so it's just the acid in your stomach. I think I damaged my sternum. I was sick for the first seven months of all five pregnancies but they all turned out healthy thank God. :-)

 Re:

Please keep Brian and Paul's wives in prayer. Their wives are going through very rough pregnancies and I'm sure they could use some prayer too.
