Amen jimdiedtosin: I wished I had said that. I need to pray for direction in everything. But if I already now where the person or the party has stood on Godly issues and is stil standing, If I pray, God might say, did fall off a turnip truck, have you been on another planet or what.

- I choose to vote BECAUSE it will reflect my voice to this nation.
- I choose to vote BECAUSE I want to provide a better life for my wife and future children.
- I choose to vote BECAUSE of the permissiveness of sinful lifestyles over the past few decades -- and the desire by certain political parties to embrace the lifestyle as "normal" itself.
- I choose to vote so that my future children might be protected from laws protecting dangerous individuals.
- I choose to vote so that my "freedoms" are not limited to the spiritual realm.
- I choose to vote so that history does not repeat itself (ala WWI and WWII), along with the atrocities committed.
- I choose to vote so that America, this once "shining city on a hill," will not resemble the religious apathy of Europe.
- I choose to vote so that this nation's judges will not shut out the world of God and legally replace it with godless humanism.
- I choose to vote so that my wife and future children will not see pornography on billboards outside of our home that is protected because it is considered "artistically tasteful."
- I choose to vote because I see that the situation merits enough importance that I should participate.

Amen, Chris. You're right on the money.

I personally like Huckabee... but then I realize I hate politics.

What difference does it make who gets in. Bush is a so called Christian, he's a republican and more laws are being passed against Christianity regardless, so what difference does it make who gets in??

 Re:

Hi Compliments...

The same argument can be made about cleaning your house. Why clean it if it's going to get dirty again? Why wash your clothes if they are just going to get dirty? Why buy a car if it will break down one day? Why evangelize if the bulk of the world will not listen?

The point is that this nation permits each citizen to share their voice (vote). If you want to prevent the anti-Christian activist judges from being appointed, then vote for a person who you perceive will refrain from doing so.

As for me, the "reasonable" massacre of millions of unborn children through abortion is issue enough to warrant my vote.

:-(

Is it issue enough to volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center

Is it issue enough to keep us up at night weeping before God

Is it issue enough to take us into the slums and ghettos of our cities late at night where the homeless, gangs and addicts gather (and a great number of abortions come from) to risk our lives in offering not only the reality and hope of Christ for these people but to tell them that God now commands all men everywhere to repent

Is it enough for us to stand on a street corner and become of no repuation amongst our peers declaring that God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world, including this wicked nation that is under His wrath, in rightousness

Is it enough to mess up our comfortable little christian lives by taking in a pregnant teenager to our homes and giving up our money and time to care for her and the baby she really deep down inside doesnt want to abort while sharing the Gospel of reconciliation with her.

These are the questions that I am interested in... and I pray we all will be too. Voting comes at the bottom of this list for me, after I can say yes to all of the above questions (which will truly glorify God) then I will consider checking a box on a piece of paper something worth pursuing.

In Christ - Jim

I don't mean to offend, so if this comes out the wrong way, just chalk it up to my unlearnedness...

Compliments, you sound utterly despondent when it comes to politics.

What sphere of life can the Lord not touch? Is it impossible for Him to intercede on the behalf of an entire nation, to anoint a godly leader?

The Lord told us that a man with faith as small as a mustard seed could move mountains - what's a king or a politician next to a mountain?

You can do all of the above AND still vote.

Yet, if a person truly wants to stop abortion, they can "lay the axe to the root." While the true root is selfishness, there was not a national problem with abortion until 1973's Supreme Court decision calling it a "right to privacy." Of course, the pro-abortion crowd will claim that women and girls will continue to murder their unborn children with coat hangers. While the practice did occur, it was not nearly as widespread as some would have us believe. Limiting the legality of such a procedure will save a multitude of lives while also protecting women from the awful psychological scars that remain for an entire lifetime!

Besides, no matter how much the Church preached and wailed against slavery -- it still existed in the Western world for centuries! It wasn't until men exercised their rights as citizens (i.e. William Wilburforce, etc...) that the practice ended. While this might not seem to matter in the scope of eternity -- it mattered GREATLY to the slaves and children of slaves. The same is true with abortion. Weep, wail and preach against it all you want. But if you want to put an end to it -- why not do all of the above AND ALSO VOTE?

The primary focus of our existence should be on the unseen. However, most of us still remain living in this world. While we participate in the affairs of this world, we do so from an eternal perspective. Besides, most of us still eat, work "secular" jobs, go to the doctor, purchase insurance, obey the traffic laws, etc... We are even forced to purchase our Bibles using something as "worldly" as money! God is more than able to provide for our needs -- but he will not counterfeit currency so that we can pay our bills. I haven't heard any reports of modern provisions of "manna." The Lord holds men accountable for taking care of their families. One way to do this is by sharing our "voice" (our "vote") in matters that affect our families.

Is it a compromise? It is no more compromise with the world than using the currency of this nation to pay our bills.

:-)

I think a "word of mouth" movement for a candidate is much healthier then having to put multi-millions into campaigns with tv ads, etc. He is a viable choice for Americans but the major thing that is stopping him is awareness. And that "is" being achieved in some manner through word of mouth on the internet. I do not think there have been excessive posts about him or political matters on SI. But I do think its worthy for him to be mentioned a few times to christian crowds, I am in support of this.

I've witnessed much contradiction on SI before, but this is amazing. I find an odd partiality here concerning politics on SI. Specifically when the discussion is concerning the 2008 US presidential election, there are few objections raised (at least when in support of Ron Paul or a Republican).

But when the discussion turns to being in negative reaction/criticism of the current Administration, I always find people quote this, from the rules,

"It is not a place for politics, politicians, policy's nor particular support thereof."

That sounds pretty clear to me, don't you think? This thread should be locked. As you've locked other politically-involved threads.

Personally I don't believe you should curtail political discussions at all, but if you are going to, stick with your own word and rules, and don't be partial to your own interests when they contradict the rules you set up/propagate for everyone.
