Check this out and check yourself!

This is a message for all of us we all (including myself) We need to check ourselves when posting and participating in this or other forums. Read this and check yourself. If this makes you mad or stirs your spirit maybe the Holy Spirit is trying to tell you something.

I'm the first to say that there are times and places under the direction of the Holy Spirit to "stir the gravy" so to speak or to speak out strong against error or false teaching - in fact, this may be one of those time. I'm not coming against sermonindex forum or any Christian forums for that matter, but rather against the contentious, argumentative and religious pride spirits that sometimes attack these forums.

These forums (especially sermonindex)can be a wonderful place and tool to learn, grow, encourage, rebuke, fellowship and reprove other brothers and sisters in Christ. But this is a warning to all - check yourself!!!

Re: Check this out and check yourself!

This is a great post.

I feel we all need to be like the bereans, no matter how smart someone sounds. My old pastor used to get upset at me, because he saw me looking through the bible in the sermons. I just tell him I am searching the scriptures daily, to see whether these things are so..

god bless all

 Re:

Great picture!! I got a good laugh on that one. I used to be this guy, only minus the bag over my head...I used to do it with an open face with my 3-D brothers and sisters (to use Diane's term) back "in the day." Spiritual pride is so lethal, because in reality I looked like the guy in the picture, but saw myself like Jesus carrying the lamb on my shoulder! Thank God for His mercy, and He is patient (over the years) to refine even "the experts" like me :-)

 Re:

Thank you for sharing this. It reminded me of my earlier days with my huge Bible and my theological bag of tricks. It looked a lot like me except the bag was replaced with a big log protruding from my eyes.

I'm thankful that God knows how to deal with my pride and am thankful that the "truth" is not a doctrine but it's a man. His name is Jesus.

I never heard of the term "spiritual pornography" but if we're not careful we will simply become religionistic and sin is often referred to in scripture as adultery so that makes sense.

Blessings to you brother...

AW Tozer said becareful of those christians who have an answer for everything.

I'm careful and concerned for those who have answers for every post. Proverbs says a fool utters all his mind.

 Re: and check yourself!

Hi Patrick,

This is the third time this has been posted here in about a month.

Here's one of those times ...
https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=10345&forum=35&8

I thought it was novel and probably as you saw it ... it 'can' be useful.

And the site it comes from --- I liked their articles also.

The problem I've seen though with it .... is it brings out "The motes and Beams" in some.

They CAN'T see themselves in it but start immediately with "Yeah, this other poster .... "

Well - Such is life - huh ?

Folks do this at Church with Sermons too .... "Aw, too bad Fred isn't here to hear this ... this one's for him."

On the fruit inspections thread, I felt we should discern or judge a post by it's contents and not by whatever we think about the person.

That judging by the Gal 5 "Fruit", may not be the best way to deal with other's posts or others in general. But by 'what' they teach. If it's "Biblical" or not and that should be our only test of other's broadcastings, so to speak.
If we judge everyone by their love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance ... there would be no one left to post here.
Jam 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Perfect "man" here is teleios "anēr" is used 50 times in the N.T. as "husband".
I won't give all the commentaries from e-sword on this one - Ha - but it's a very interesting verse ... sort of as interesting as this thread.

When anything brings out.... "Yeah, I know somebody like this" and we can't see ourselves in it .... Helloooo ... Use the chain saw in the picture to get at that Beam in your own eye --- .

You are right Annie this is so very true. We all have some this in us. With that being said I glad I started of the post with... :-P

When I first saw this I though of the time that this guy was me, and repented. But if when you see this you automatically think of someone else who is this guy then you are most likely in a bad state. You probably are this guy (like me) but the worst thing is that you don't even know it so you can't repent. Please everyone examine yourself and repent for the times you have been like this. I don't think anyone is 100% innocent. I know I'm not. It is so easy to be drawn into contentious arguments. If everyone to think about this before they posted imagine how much more fruitful our time on the forum would be.

Sorry if I post this picture that had been posted before. I only have time to check out the forum a couple of times a week and things move through pretty quick. :-o

Patrick

 Re:

If you'll excuse the posting of a Non-KJV these verses are better translated in this Jam 3:1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
Jam 3:2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn't stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. etc...

Today I've lit off at least 4 wild posts and I will tell 'you' why Patrick.

After I went off line yesterday, it hit me like a ton of bricks .... something I already knew but the intensity was so much stronger this time.

WHY AREN'T WE TALKING ABOUT JESUS ???

That's all I wanted to say and why I'm posting as I am this afternoon. I've lost my mind.

Take care.

Oh P.S. Patrick, we're NOT all like this picture you posted .... look over the posts again, there is an expert or two on here... so you're wrong again. Ha. ;-)

Hi everyone.

Habakkuk,

Brother, it was so wonderfull to me to grasp this! I think I had fallen into some of the same pridefull traps that some of you mentioned also.

That truth is a Person, Jesus, and not any particular doctrine is so wonderfull! I think it was a message by Richard Wurmbrand that really solidified that understanding for me. He related how after so long in prison they began to forget all the scriptures and everything they had learned about the Bible, as he put it, the truth about the truth about the Truth; all they were left with was the Truth Himself, Jesus.

May God be our help today.
