 S. Lewis Johnson (1915 - 2004)

Dr. Johnson was Professor of New Testament from 1950 to 1972 and Professor of Systematic Theology from 1972 to 1977 at Dallas Theological Seminary. He served as Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School at Deerfield, IL and also was Visiting Professor of Systematic Theology at Tyndale Theological Seminary, Amsterdam, Netherlands. He accomplished graduate work at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, SMU, Dallas and the University of Basel, Switzerland. Dr Johnson was engaged in pastoral ministry for about 45 years. He went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2004.
Upon graduation he became a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he taught Greek, Hebrew, and systematic theology for 31 years. After retiring from Dallas Seminary, he became Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois from 1980-1985, as well as serving as a visiting Professor of New Testament at Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, Indiana. From 1985- 1993 he served as a visiting Professor of Systematic Theology at Tyndale Theological Seminary in Badhoevedorp, Amsterdam, Netherlands. In addition, he served as pastor of Independent Presbyterian Church (1951-1954), pastor of Grace Bible Church (1954-1958), and as a teaching elder and minister at Believers Chapel (1980-1993). During his years of ministry he was a guest speaker at Bible conferences in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Australia, Jamaica, and Europe. Publications include, The Old Testament in the New, published 1980, and co-translator, The Berkeley Bible and The New International Version, as well as numerous periodical articles.
