| | The Sacrifice That Is Pleasing To God by Duncan Campbell
Topic: Sacrifice Scripture(s): Genesis 32:24-32, Psalms 51:15-17 | | Description: Campbell sets out using the incident of Jacob's breaking during with his wrestling match with God to apply these principles to ourselves for "the entire reconstruction" of our lives. "Jacob couldn't wrestle anymore; he could only cling." When a life has come through God's breaking process, it is then time alone with God is precious and spiritual vision comes. Our flesh doesn't like these kind of messages, but there is tremendous spiritual growth possible to the one who submits to God's chastening.

Great sermon on why brokenness is so poweful | | I really liked the connection Campbell makes between brokenness and intimacy with God. A common theme of his is the importance of getting alone with God. "Something definitely happens when a man gets alone with God." I find listening to Campbell heightens an awareness of my own need to seek God HIMSELF as the old hymn goes, "Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord."
| The Sacrifice That is Pleasing to God | | Using texts from Genesis 32:24-32 and Psalm 51:15-17, this great highland revivalist preaches of honesty, brokenness, and holiness in the life of the Christian. As Jacob bore in his body the mark of wrestling with the Lord, today the Christian who has been with God is marked by New Testament holiness. |
