| | (1 Peter - Part 25): On Wives and Their Place in Family Life by A.W. Tozer
Topic: Family Life Scripture(s): 1 Peter 3:1-7 | | Description: The subject of 1 Peter 3:1-7 is no joking matter. In the home, says Dr. Tozer, theres place for recognition of the proper relationships and positions, but there is no place for domination. The dominating wife is a product of sin and of unbelief, the pastor declares, and has no place whatsoever in the will of God. As for the husband, there is no biblical example, anywhere, for the brutal lord who rules his home with an iron hand. Pastor Tozer bravely tackles the subject of how a woman should dress, by describing four general traits: clean, neat, modest, and appropriate. On Wives and Their Place in Family Life is the 25th message in this 34-part study of Peters first epistle. It was preached in Chicago, Illinois on April 4, 1954, and its length is 29 minutes and 58 seconds.

Errata... | | I was so glad to hear from a man of God that God is not against women wearing ornaments! This scripture portion is used by the Pentecostal groups and other such groups to say that women must not wear any ornaments at all. In India, the women of The Pentocostal Mission do not wear any ornaments as a rule. I am NOT saying that women must be encouraged to wear ornaments but it cannot be sound doctrine if we say Christian women cannot wear ornaments at all. Thank God for making me clear on this issue. Yes we ought to wear what is clean, neat, modest and appropriate. May God help us. Yours In Christ, Brother Timothy (Chalamba)

| the problem | | This teaching is exceptional. I find his talking about how Christian women should be neat and orderly a bit funny, but I think this is good common sense things that must have been very hard for him to say. The thing that hurts with these types of sermons, is how very little sermons there are about male behavior. He does take up male domination, and male "tricks" up in this, but they take a very big backseat to womens domination. I believe that the bible tells us that women are the reflection of her husband, and I think if men took that more to heart, women would not be dominating, maybe though, if men felt reassured of their wives love, they would have an easier time stepping up and taking a proper leadership role.
| needed | | Tozer is an awesome man of God! This is a wonderful message that I shared with my wife. Women need to hear this.
| The importance of women's dress | | This is good, solid, biblical teaching from this passage in 1 Peter. Tozer was never one to shy away from any subject and went down in history as being one of the most politically incorrect of his day. But he was a prophet of God who gave out God's last word to America before judgment fell. |
