Does Doctrine Matter by Derek Melton by SermonIndex.net Classics Podcast

Topic: Podcast
Scripture(s): 1 Timothy 4:1-2
Description: Derek Melton speaks powerfully on the subject of the need of doctrinal truth and purity in the last days we live in. There is a great need for glorifying God in all things including the scriptures of God. There needs to be a re-capturing of this urgency to understand spiritual doctrine no matter what theological persuasion we come from, we must meet at the general powerful truths of the Scripture.

 well spoken truth
The one thing most lacking in the church in America is a correct knowledge of God as revealed by scripture. That is why we are so prone to error and heresy. As our brother Paul Washer has said, " Sunday morning has become the greatest hour of Idolatry in history", simply because we do not know God as he in fact is and have substituted a "god" we have made in our own minds. So, Yes, Doctrine is indeed important.

 Pour on the Truth!
Great teaching. We are in need of more "cut to the chase" topics. Enough with the Me, Me, Me...and more GOD, GOD, JESUS, and JESUS!! The world is getting tougher, so we need to press in harder!

 Powerful Exhortation
Brother Melton exhorts powerfully for us to covet and desire true doctrine. He very clearly and with the burden of the Lord shares why so many churches are failing in this hour. Oh for men and women to be lovers of truth and the Word of God again!

 Right message...
I believe brother Melton with this message is shooting in the right general direction. It is refreshing to hear somebody expound on the necessity of doctrine, and right doctrine at that. However, I believe our brother was too abstract about true doctrine. The reason true doctrine is necessary is because true doctrine expresses realities and things as they really are about God. Doctrine is the issue of truth and our ultimate realities. Also, I believe our brother could have given his message in a more gentle manner. I'm all for hard and tough preaching, but I believe brother Melton lacked a spirit of grace becoming of this message. This message was not as life giving as it could have been. But, as I said, it is nice to see people shooting in the right direction.
