Church History - Session 3 (After Augustus) by Edgar F. Parkyns

Topic: Church History
Scripture(s): Daniel 2, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8
Description: Parkyns commences a new era in the Church from the 4th through 6th centuries. Persecution of the 1st and 2nd centuries phased out as Christianity became universally accepted starting with Constantine (313 AD). New creeds formed to combat new heresies, but even the biblically based creeds turned into dead orthodoxy, which gave rise to counter movements. Parkyns outlines gospel developments, monastic orders, and adoption of paganism by the 'official church' in Europe (particularly the British Isles), the rise to preeminence of the bishop of Rome, and a renewed interest in the Church about the coming of the Antichrist.

A decent overview of Christendom's decay
(The audio is a bit weak; I had my volume on highest level.) Parkyns gave a good treatment of exposing heathenism dressed up into Christianized ways, such as worship of Mary, introduction of Old Testament worship, and embracing pagan festivals (such as Christmas). I like Parkyns straightfowardness on such topics that many are afraid to speak the truth about. Although I don't espouse Parkyn's views totally on the Antichrist, I appreciate his love of the Word of God and presentation of a different viewpoint for thoughtful consideration.
