 Profiteering Christianity by Zac Poonen

Topic: Profiteering
Scripture(s): 1 Corinthians 9:12
Description: Zac Poonen shares clearly from Scripture and the burden of the Holy Spirit how many in Christendom are making profit from the Gospel. He calls for brethren to be set apart from serving mammon in anyway in the work of the Gospel.

 Serve God, not mammon
A message that needs to be heard in a lot of churches today - serve God, not mammon. Let us all first seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all that we need will be given to us.

 It was ok...
In general, I thought this message was just ok. Some good observations by brother Zac, and some good exhortations and good insights and warnings about money and ministry.

What gold glitters more greatly than the purity of motivation that Christ himself is? What silver is more reflective than that which is purely dredged from serving the body of Christ with no strings attached? What precious metals can compare to the ones mined in the caves of the Spirit and Truth? I love how Brother Zac calls it like it is with no punches pulled. If you have listened to about twenty or so of Brother Zac's messages you will understand more clearly why he made the comment about the Psalm readings in the way that he did. If you have not heard him preach much, statements like that may be shocking. I find it very interesting that there are not more preachers today that harp on Zac's overall important emphasis which he is utterly consistent on throughout many of His sermons. Serve Christ for Christ...not for profiteering, or any sort of selfish motive. Praise God there is grace for this (Philippians 1:15-18.) But should we sin more that grace should abound more? T

 Good Message
This message takes away the excuses that we are often tempted to make as to why we are not as spiritual as we should be.

Read the Psalms not The Message
I would like to encourage each of you to take Brother Poonen's message regarding profiteering religion, which knows no borders, to heart and run from it. I would also like to encourage each of you to continue to read the Psalms and know that Christ never admonished the disciples to disregard the inspired writings of those men of old who contributed to the poetry and prophecy of God. Only one who has little or no understanding of the role of grace in the Old Testament would characterize the prayers of the Psalms as something that should be disregarded. Finally, I would like to encourage each of you to run as far as you can from such profiteering and un-Godly books as Eugene Peterson's "The Message."

 Mammon or God?
So few are giving these clear messages of warning of using the Gospel for financial profit, yet it is one of the troublesome problems in North American Christianity and beyond. "I am sad to say Christians are sleeping. May the Lord wake them up to see that the God of the bible they should worship and not the God of money." - Walid Bitar
