| | (Through The Bible) Genesis 4-5 by Chuck Smith
Topic: Expositional Scripture(s): Genesis 4-5 | | Description: Where the Scriptures are silent we should be silent also. Someone had the interpretation that Even knew the serpent and that’s how the seed of Cain was formed but that is clearly conjecture and not scriptural fact. In the Old Mosaic law the offering of grain was a plausible offering to be given to God. It was the lack of faith in Cain’s offering. Sometimes the best commentary of the Old Testament is the New Testament. For example in Hebrews 11 it tells us about the situation of Cain and Abel. Just because God questions in genesis doesn’t mean that God doesn’t know but rather he is trying to get Cain to confess. God knows exactly what I happening all the time but God is merciful to try and get us to confess our sins before Him. We always try to justify ourselves rather then just saying, “I am wrong”. There was much more a purer strain of humans in the beginning therefore marrying a sister would not cause such genetic defects as it would today. Methuselah almost lived for an entire millennium. Noah’s father still lived at the same time that Adam was living. Methuselah died in the year of the flood. Enoch broke the chain, he was a man of faith because he walked with God. He has the testimony in Hebrews that Enoch pleased God. The father says of His son, this is my beloved Son who I am well pleased with. We please God in our trusting Him. There are other records of the flood in Egypt and Babylon etc. Some of them are gross accounts of this biblical truth. But this truth shows that man has a common creation and start.

| | The Anatomy of Worship by Art Katz
Topic: Worship Scripture(s): Genesis 4 | | Description: True sacrifice is only found in a worshipful heart that recognizes and acknowledges God as God, as He essentially is. Anything less than this will lead to hardness of heart and eventually to murder in one form or another. An excellent prophetic statement taken from the classic episode of Cain and Abel.

| | 64 Principle 60- Martyrs Esteemed in the Church by Principles For The Gathering of Believers
Topic: Audio Books Scripture(s): Mark 8:35, Genesis 4, Revelation 20 | | Description: The thought of any believer in Christ being martyred is something hard to bear. Yet from an eternal perspective the Iranian believers hold in high regard those who have laid down their lives for the cause of Christ. The stories of the martyrs in Iran are many. These are just a few: On January 19, 1994, Haik disappeared from the streets of Tehran. The authorities reported his death to his family on January 30; he was stabbed 26 times in his chest: “Indeed, Haik gave his heart to Christ twice. Once when he invited Christ to his life as his Savior, and second, when his heart was torn apart for his faith in Christ.”783

| | (Through The Bible) Genesis 24-26 by Chuck Smith
Topic: Expositional Scripture(s): Genesis 24-26 | | Description: Abraham made his servant swear that he should go back to Abraham’s old country to get a woman for his son Isaac. The woman that is being asked by the servant is being asked to take a large step of faith. The chances for the servant to be successful to get a women to come back was a small or very uncertain. The servant re-asks the question to ensure that if a woman would not come because he wanted to get the terms of the vow clear. The servant has faith and prays to God for Him to let a certain women be the one for Abraham’s son Isaac. The servant makes a fleece prayer before God. It is interesting that sometimes it takes a long time for our prayers to be answered. Sometimes are prayers are done immediately. Why does sometimes it come immediately and sometimes takes a long time. The answer is simply that God is in control of things; he is in control of the issues and timing of our prayers and needs. Every right thing you pray for God wanted to give it to you before you pray. Every good and perfect gift is from above.

| | Pentecost and Being Led by the Spirit by Erlo Stegen
Topic: Pentecost Scripture(s): Genesis 24 | | Description: Abraham is known as the father of believers. There is so much we can learn from him. We are told that they will come from the east and west and sit together with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the tables of heaven (Matt 8:11-12). But what is shocking is that that passage goes on to say that the children of the Kingdom will be cast out! Every child of God should test and examine himself that he is not counted with those who are cast out of the Kingdom of Heaven. Abraham was 75 years old when God gave him a promise and told him to leave the land of his forefathers. And he left everything (Gen 12:1-4). We can learn so much from him. If we want to follow Jesus, we must also leave everything behind. But his father Terah wanted to go with him. He respected his father and allowed him to go with him. He was promised that although he was 75 years old and had no children, his offspring will be as the stars of heaven (Gen 15:5, 22:17, 26:4, 12:7). Abraham also took Lot along as a nephew and son, since he had no children of his own. It’s so easy to make a mistake. Lot was a very nice person and it was difficult for Abraham to refuse. They traveled as far as Haran and settled there (Gen 11:31). God stopped speaking to Abraham until his father passed away. When his father had died, then God spoke again to him to continue (Gen 11:32 - 12:1). When God calls you, don’t take anything along except what God says you should take along.
