(1 Samuel) How to Be Free From Bitterness by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 31
Description: The final day of king Sauls life finally arrives, the day the Lord warned him about probably 15-20 years before, Saul goes into battle with the armies of Israel against the Philistines. The battle goes very badly for Saul and he finds himself in the heat of the fight due to his army retreating, Saul sons including Jonathan Davids close beloved friend are killed and Saul is pierced with arrows. Knowing that he is going to die he asks his armour bearer to kill him so that he will not be captured and ridiculed by the philistines, but his amrour bearer doesn't and so Saul falls upon his own sword and takes his own life, even here on the last day of his life knowing how soon he will stand before almighty God Saul doesn't repent. The people of Israel in the surrounding area hear of what has happened and abandon their homes and flee. The Philistines take Sauls body and cut off his head and use it as a grisly trophy to show their victory. But the men of Jabesh Gilead go to the city where the philistines have chained up the bodies of Saul and his sons and take them back and give them proper burial and mourne for the loss. David mourns when he hears that his king has been killed he shows no bitterness or rejoicing but calls Saul the beauty of Israel.

Attaining Immortality by Robert B. Thompson

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Corinthians 15:12-26, 1 Samuel 28:11, Matthew 27:52
Description: Dr. Thompson presents a very thorough, fascinating case for focusing our hope on the resurrection of the body instead of the ascension (rapture). He discusses why it is so important that we are raised from the dead, and how focusing on ‘gaining entrance heaven’ is actually counterproductive, since it bypasses the very heart of God and His grand plan.  (The Path Of The Ark #2) Enemy by Ed Miller

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 2-4
Description: The capturing of the Ark of God by the Philistines is both a sad event but also good news, for it is the first step towards finding a resting place at Solomon's temple. The Philistines are that natural part of me (the flesh, the old man) that must be dealt with first. Having Samuel (the child heart, the resting heart, the listening ear) in our lives does not secure victory over the lordship of the Philistines; it is only the starting point. (NOTE: the message was cut off at 41 minutes).

 Desperate Prayer by Leonard Ravenhill

Topic: Travail
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1
Description: Leonard Ravenhill draws from Hannah's travail how intercession is likened to spiritual "pregnancy" and birth. As travail precedes the birth of a child, so birth pangs of desperate prayer precede revival. Ravenhill masterfully draws upon the heroic exploits of prayer warriors Rees Howell, John Hyde, Praying Payson, E. M. Bounds, David Brainerd, A. W. Tozer, Murray M'Cheyne and Duncan Campbell. "An intercessor," says Ravenhill, "is one who himself will take the load." Will you?

Intercessory Prayer - Part 1 by Leonard Ravenhill

Topic: Intercessory Prayer
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1
Description: Ravenhill teaches basic elements of intercessory prayer from the life of Samuel's mother--weeping, fasting, provocation, grieving and praying. He cited two examples of how intercession brought help from above, such as missionary Raymond Edmund as he lay on his deathbed in Uruguay. Mr. Ravenhill highlights the language of prayer and the burden of prayer from which revivals and churches are birthed

Give Me Souls Or I'll Die - Part 1 by Leonard Ravenhill

Topic: Fervent Prayer
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1, Genesis 30:1
Description: Leonard Ravenhill's opening prayer says it all: "Take us out of the nursery to the armory." He calls upon the church to awake to fervent prayer, salting our appetites by the example of others: people he had met personally (Duncan Campbell, Smith Wigglesworth, Jonathan Goforth's daughter) and people whose lifestyle of agonizing intercession had impacted him (David Brainerd, Praying Payson of Portland, John Hyde, Susanna Wesley and others).

How Satan Destroys a Church - Part 7 (WHO'S THE KING OF THE JUNGLE?) by Don Courville

Topic: Spiritual Warfare
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 17, Ephesians 6:10-13
Description: If Satan can draw us to fight with his ways we'll lose the battle. David fought Goliath with the weapons that God gave him, not with Saul's armor. Satan will seek to draw us away from loving and obeying God, from prayer, and from our position of faith. To do so will result in failure. But we must stand strong in the Lord and believe Christ for the victory.

The Glory Is Departed by Harold Vaughn by Revival Conference Canton 2007

Topic: Revival Conference
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 4
Description: Harold Vaughn speaks of great need of revival and the declension of the nation of Israel under the priesthood of Eli. There is a similarity between the story found in 1st Samuel and the current state of America spiritually. This message gives a clear call for repentance for the Church of Jesus Christ.
