Ps 119:9-11

9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

God's Word will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from God's Word.

We don't know for sure who wrote this psalm.
Some theologians say that Ezra wrote this psalm after the completion of the temple.

This psalm is the longest in the Bible. It has 176 verses.

A certain German man punished his child for wrongdoing by telling him to learn Ps 119 off by heart. Within one and a half hours the boy recited the whole psalm to his father, without a mistake. People's gifts are different.

It doesn't matter how well you can remember; what is important is that you obey and keep the Word which God gives you, even if it's just a verse.

This psalm is also divided into 22 sections, each having 8 verses, all the verses in a section starting with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

John 15:7, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you".

Now if God's Words abide in you, it will cause you to also pray according to His will.

This psalm is like a song and sweeter than honey. God's Word keeps us from sin.

Some people say that God's Word is dead to them, and He doesn't speak to them out of it. It's because of sin. Get rid of the sin, and His Word will become alive to you.
You will find God speaking to you again. How can you pass on God's message to others if you haven't received His Word in your heart? And before you share God's Word with other people, pray that God will speak through you and be a blessing to them.

In this psalm we find the writer repeating himself many times. When God has spoken to you out of a certain verse, it's good to ponder on it.

Every verse in this psalm refers to God's Word, except 122 and 132. This reveals to us the beauty of God's Word. It helps us to grow in God's grace.

When you identify yourself with God's Word, make sure you live accordingly.
Some claim to be Christians, but they live immorally, swear, get angry, etc. Such should rather keep quiet and not tell anyone that they're "Christians", for their life is a disgrace.

This psalm show us the importance of keeping and remembering God's Word. The Bible is the only sure guide of how we should live. Even if governments and some churches want to do away with the Bible, there is no other Book which can uplift a nation as the Bible. We must treasure God's Word, heartily delight in it, tell others about it and act according to it.

Whenever the Bible is removed from a section of society, that section becomes corrupted and brings forth evil.

Make the Bible your best friend.
