Text Sermons : Classic Christian Writings : The Bridegroom Cometh! By John J. Hunt

"Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the Bridegroom...

"And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him" (Matt. 25:1,6).

Attention is called to His coming NOT as Saviour, but as Bridegroom. "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh." Not as judge, but as the Bridegroom--not Monarch of the millennium, but as Bridegroom--not as Warrior at Armageddon, but as Bridegroom--not to the "supper of the Great God" (Rev. 19:17), but to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Christ is coming as the Jeweler after His jewels (Mal. 3:17), as the Harvester for His wheat (Matt. 13:30), as the Merchantman for His pearls (Matt. 13:45), as the Nobleman for His subjects (Luke 19:12), as the Shepherd for His sheep (1 Pet. 5:4), as the Kinsman for His Ruth (Ruth 4:14-15), as the Bridegroom for His bride. He is coming to the wedding before He comes to the war (Rev. 19). He will come as the Battler at Armageddon, but first as the Bridegroom divine.

"Behold, the Bridegroom!" He surely is coming. The time is fixed. The schedule is printed. The day is known to God. None of us now know. It is as certain as Deity. Nothing can prevent it. He has pledged it in His Word. It must be. No shallow vaporizing of the Word can sidetrack it. No allegorizing of the Prophecies can void it. Christ’s Second Advent is as certain as the integrity of God Almighty.

"Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" (Rev. 22:20).
