"Leaders of an unusual new movement, the B'NAI NO'ACH (children of Noah) have convinced some Baptists of the need to reject New Testament Christianity and become Gentile followers of Judaism. Led by former Texas Baptist minister Vendyl Jones, the movement teaches Gentiles to return to the pure worship of God found in the seven laws of Noah. Followers of this sect have sought instruction from Orthodox Jewish rabbis and study the Torah in Hebrew. Jesus is acknowledged only as a rabbi or prophet. His deity, virgin birth, and resurrection are denied. The WALL STREET JOURNAL (March 20, 1991) reported that one former Baptist congregation, Emmanuel Baptist Church of Athens, Tenn., became Noachide two years ago, led by its pastor J. David Davis. The church took down its steeple, removed "Baptist" and "Church" from its sign, stopped celebrating Christmas, and invited an Orthodox Jewish rabbi to teach them the Bible."
