PREFACE ======================================================================== Preface I hope that you will be able to use this as a study tool in your everyday study of the scriptures. This is the combined Gospels of Matthew, Luke, Mark, and John, color coded numbers to help you see the scriptures in a new light as they are put together by events in chronological order as I saw them. This is not the entire Bible, it is simply the first four Gospels in a timeline with corresponding scriptures placed together. Some opinions have been added in italics, remember Acts 17:11-12. You may want to go to www.biblehub.com to research words and parallel versions of the scripture. I also recommend E-Sword at www.Biblesupport.com *Any errors in this volume are mine and mine alone. I have tried to do as The Holy Spirit has instructed me to do, and that is to bring to the individual a means to compare and to study the Good News of our Lord and Savior, our Messiah, the King of Kings, the One who is the First and the Last, the Amen, the Beginning and the End, the One whose Reign shall never end. May God bless you and keep you and favor you all of your days. If you do not know Jesus, Yeshua, as your personal Savior, I implore you to do so now, for we do not know the time that He will be coming. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 3: 01.001. THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST ======================================================================== The Deity of Jesus Christ (John 1:1-5) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was Elohim.2The ONE was in the beginning with God.3All things came into creation through The One , and apart from The ONE nothing came into creation that has come into creation.4In The One was LIFE, and The LIFE was The LIGHT of men.5The LIGHT shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overtake it. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 4: 01.002. THE TRUE LIGHT ======================================================================== The True LIGHT (John 1:9-13) 9Being TheTrue LIGHT which, coming into this world, illumines every Man 1:10 He was in this world, and this world was created through Him, and this world knew Him not.11He came to His own possesion and those who were His own possession did not receive Him.12But as many as received Him, to them He gave authority to become children of God,evento those who Believe in His Name,13whom not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God were born. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 5: 01.003. THE WORD MADE FLESH ======================================================================== The Word Made Flesh (John 1:14-18) 14And The WORD became flesh, and tabernacled among us, and we saw His Glory, Glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John the Baptist testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was The One of whom I said, ‘The One who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for The One existed before me.’”16For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus, The Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 6: 01.004. THE GENEALOGY OF JESUS THE MESSIAH THROUGH JOSEPH ======================================================================== The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah through Joseph (Matthew 1:1-17) 1The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham: 2Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.3Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram.4Ram was the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon.5Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse.6Jesse was the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah.7Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa.8Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah.9Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah.10Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah.11Josiah became the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. 12After the deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel.13Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor.14Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud.15Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob.16Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. 17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 7: 01.005. GABRIEL ANNOUNCES JOHN’S BIRTH ======================================================================== Gabriel announces John’s Birth (Luke 1:1-25) 1Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,2just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,3it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to writeitout for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;4so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught. 5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and righteous ordinances of the Lord. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years. 8 Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the order of his division, 9 according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.10 And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering. 11 And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense. 12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John 14 “You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 “For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb. 16 “And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. 17 “It is he who will go forth before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the enlightened perspective of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” 18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this? I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.” 19 The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20 “And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.” 21 The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple. 22 But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute. 23 When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home. 24 After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying, 25 “This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 10: 01.008. GABRIEL SENT TO MARY ======================================================================== Gabriel Sent To Mary (Luke 1:26-38) 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was greatly disturbed at his statement, and was unable to grasp what kind of greeting this was. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. 31 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” 34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. 36 “And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. 37 “For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, the handmaiden of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 11: 01.009. MARY VISITS ELIZABETH, JOHN THE BAPTISTS MOTHER ======================================================================== Mary Visits Elizabeth, John the Baptists Mother (Luke 1:39-56 Cont’d on next page) 39Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,40and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.41When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.42And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessedareyou among women, and blessedisthe fruit of your womb!43“And how has ithappenedto me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?44“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.45“And blessedis she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 12: 01.010. THE MAGNIFICAT ======================================================================== The Magnificat 46And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord, 47And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. 49“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. 50“ANDHIS MERCY ISUPON GENERATIONAFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEARHIM. 51“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scatteredthose who wereproud in the thoughts of their heart. 52“He has brought down rulers fromtheirthrones, And has exalted those who were humble. 53“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed. 54“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy, 55As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.” 56And Mary stayed with her about three months, andthenreturned to her home. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 13: 01.011. JOHN THE BAPTIST IS BORN & HIS FATHER ZACHARIA GIVES A PROPHECY ======================================================================== John The Baptist Is Born & His Father Zacharia Gives A Prophecy (Luke 1:57-80) 57Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.58Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.59And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.60But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”61And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”62And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.63And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.64And at once his mouth was opened and his tongueloosed, and hebeganto speak in praise of God.65Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.66All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this childturn out tobe?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 14: 01.012. ZACHARIAS FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT PROPHESIES ======================================================================== Zacharias filled with the Holy Spirit Prophesies 67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying: 68“Blessedbethe Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, 69And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant— 70As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old— 71SalvationFROM OUR ENEMIES, AndFROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US; 72To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant, 73The oath which He swore to Abraham our father, 74To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear, 75In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days. 76“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go onBEFORE THELORD TOPREPAREHIS WAYS; 77To give to His peopletheknowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins, 78Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us, 79TOSHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESSAND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” 80And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 15: 01.013. ANGEL VISITS JOSEPH IN A DREAM ======================================================================== Angel Visits Joseph In A Dream (Matthew 1:18-25) 18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.19And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.20But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.21“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”22Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:23“BEHOLD,THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH HILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON,AND THEY SHALL CALL IS NAME MMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.”24And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and tookMaryas his wife,25but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 16: 01.014. BIRTH OF JESUS IN BETHLEHEM ======================================================================== BIRTH OF JESUS IN BETHLEHEM (Luke 2:1-7) 1Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.2This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.3And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.4Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,5in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.6While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.7And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 17: 01.015. SHEPHERDS VISIT JESUS ======================================================================== Shepherds Visit Jesus (Luke 2:8-20) 8In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.9And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;11for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.12“Thiswill bea sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”13And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” 15When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherdsbegansaying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”16So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.17When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.18And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.19But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.20The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 18: 01.016. JESUS CIRCUMCISED ======================================================================== Jesus Circumcised (Luke 2:21) 21And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name wascalled Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 19: 01.017. JESUS PRESENTED AT THE TEMPLE, SIMEON AND ANNA SPEAK ======================================================================== Jesus Presented at the Temple, Simeon and Anna Speak (Luke 2:22-38) 22And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord23 written in the Law of the Lord, “EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD”),24and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, “A PAIR OF TURTLE DOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS.” 25And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.27And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,28then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29“Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; 30For my eyes have seen Your salvation, 31Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32A LIGHTOF REVELATION TO THEGENTILES, And the glory of Your people Israel.” 33And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, thisChildis appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed—35and a sword will pierce even your own soul—to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” 36And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived withherhusband seven years after her marriage,37and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fasting and prayers.38At that very moment she came up andbegangiving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 20: 01.018. MAGI BRING GIFTS ======================================================================== Magi Bring Gifts (Matthew 2:1-12) 1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,2“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”3When Herod the king heardthis,he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.4Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.5They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: 6‘AND YOU, BETHLEHEM,LAND OFJUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OFJUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH ARULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’” 7Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.8And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have foundHim,report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.”9After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood overthe placewhere the Child was.10When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.11After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.12And having been warnedby Godin a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 21: 01.019. JOSEPH’S FAMILY FLEES TO EGYPT ======================================================================== Joseph’s Family Flees to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15) 13Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.” 14So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.15He remained there until the death of Herod. This wasto fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 22: 01.020. HEROD SLAUGHTERS BABIES ======================================================================== Herod Slaughters Babies (Matthew 2:16-18) 16Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.17Then what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: 18“AVOICE WAS HEARD INRAMAH, WEEPING AND GREAT MOURNING, RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN; AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED, BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 23: 01.021. Then after being warnedby Godin a dream, he left for the regions of Galilee.22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. 23and came and lived in a city called Nazareth. This wasto fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: “He shall be called a Nazarene.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 24: 01.022. CHILDHOOD OF JESUS ======================================================================== Childhood Of Jesus (Luke 2:40-52) 40The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. 41Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.42And when He became twelve, they went upthereaccording to the custom of the Feast;43and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it,44but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day’s journey; and theybeganlooking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.45When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him.46Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.47And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.48When they saw Him, they were astonished; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.”49And He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’shouse?”50But they did not understand the statement which He had made to them.51And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured allthesethings in her heart. 52And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 25: 01.023. MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST ======================================================================== Ministry of John the Baptist (Luke 3:1-18) (Mark 1:1-8) (Matthew 3:1-12) 1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,2in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.3And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins; 4as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE READY THE WAY OF THELORD, MAKEHIS PATHS STRAIGHT. 5‘EVERY RAVINE WILL BE FILLED, AND EVERY MOUNTAIN AND HILL WILL BEBROUGHT LOW; THE CROOKED WILL BECOME STRAIGHT, AND THE ROUGH ROADS SMOOTH; 6AND ALLFLESH WILLSEE THE SALVATION OFGOD.’” 7So hesaid to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?8“Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.9“Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” 10And the crowds were questioning him, saying, “Then what shall we do?”11And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.”12Andsome tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”13And he said to them, “Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.”14Somesoldiers were questioning him, saying, “Andwhat about us, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuseanyonefalsely, and be content with your wages.” 15Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,16John answered and said to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.17“His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”18So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people. 1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “BEHOLD, ISENDMY MESSENGERAHEAD OFYOU, WHO WILL PREPAREYOUR WAY; 3THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE READY THE WAY OF THELORD, MAKEHIS PATHS STRAIGHT.’” 4John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.5And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.6John was clothed with camel’s hair andworea leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.7And he was preaching, and saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals.8“I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” 1Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,2“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, “THE VOICE OF ONECRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE READY THE WAY OF THELORD, MAKEHIS PATHS STRAIGHT!’” 4Now John himself had a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.5Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan;6and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins. 7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?8“Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance;9and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.10“The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11“As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.12“His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 26: 01.024. JOHN BAPTIZES JESUS ======================================================================== John Baptizes Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17) (Mark 1:9-11) (Luke 3:21-22) 13Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordancomingto John, to be baptized by him.14But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”15But Jesus answering said to him, “Permitit at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.16After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a doveandlighting on Him,17and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” 9In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.10Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;11and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” 21Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,22and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 27: 01.025. JOHN ANSWERS PRIEST, LEVITES, AND PHARISEES; ALSO GIVES TESTIMONY ABOUT JESUS ======================================================================== John Answers Priest, Levites, and Pharisees; Also Gives Testimony about Jesus (John 1:19-28) 19This is the testimony of John The Baptist, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”20And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”21They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”22Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”23He said, “I amA VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THELORD,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.” 24Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.25They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”26John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, butamong you stands One whom you do not know.27“It isHe who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”28These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 28: 01.026. THE NEXT DAY ======================================================================== The Next Day (John 1:29-34) 29The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!30“This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’31“I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”32John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.33“I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’34“I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 29: 01.027. SATAN TEMPTS JESUS IN THE WILDERNESS ======================================================================== Satan Tempts Jesus In The Wilderness (Luke 4:1-13) (Matthew 4:1-11) (Mark 1:12-13) 1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness2for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry.3And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”4And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.’”5And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.6And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.7“Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.”8Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THELORD YOURGOD AND SERVEHIM ONLY.’”9And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMANDHIS ANGELS CONCERNINGYOU TO GUARDYOU,11and,‘ONtheirHANDS THEY WILL BEARYOU UP, SO THATYOU WILL NOT STRIKEYOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”12And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘YOU SHALL NOTPUT THELORD YOURGOD TO THE TEST.’”13When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. 1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.3And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE,BUT ON EVERY WORDTHAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OFGOD.’”5Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,6and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,‘HE WILL COMMANDHIS ANGELS CONCERNINGYOU’; and ‘ONtheirHANDS THEY WILL BEARYOU UP, SO THATYOU WILL NOT STRIKEYOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’7Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THELORD YOURGOD TO THE TEST.’”8Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;9and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”10Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’”11Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came andbeganto minister to Him. 12Immediately the Spirit impelled Himtogoout into the wilderness.13And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 30: 01.028. THE FIRST DISCIPLES ======================================================================== The First Disciples (John 1:35-51) 35Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,36and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”37The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi, where are You staying?”39He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.40One of the two who heard Johnspeakand followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.41He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” translated means Christ).42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter). ======================================================================== CHAPTER 31: 01.029. And He sat down andbeganteaching the people from the boat.4When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”5Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You sayandlet down the nets.”6When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their netsbeganto break;7so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink.8But when Simon Peter sawthat,he fell down at Jesus’ feet, saying, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!”9For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken;10and so alsowereJames and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men.”11When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 32: 01.030. JESUS’ FIRST CONVERTS ======================================================================== Jesus’ First Converts (John 1:43-51) 43The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.”44Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.45Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law andalsothe Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”46Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”48Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”49Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”50Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”51And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 33: 01.031. THE FIRST MIRACLE-TURNING WATER INTO WINE AT CANA ======================================================================== The First Miracle-Turning Water into Wine at Cana (John 2:1-12) 1On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there;2and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”5His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”6Now there were six stone water pots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each.7Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.8And He said to them, “Drawsomeout now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took itto him.9When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from headwaiter called the bridegroom,10and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and whenthe peoplehave drunk freely, then he servesthe poorerwine;butyou have kept the good wine until now.”11This beginning ofHissigns Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. 12After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother andHisbrothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 34: 01.032. FIRST PASSOVER-THE FIRST TEMPLE CLEANSING ======================================================================== First Passover-The First Temple Cleansing (John 2:13-25) 13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.14And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seatedat their tables.15And He made a scourge of cords, and drovethemall out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;16and to those who were selling the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making My Father’s house a place of business.”17His disciples remembered that it was written, “ZEAL FORYOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME.”18The Jews then said to Him, “What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?”19Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”20The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”21But He was speaking of the temple of His body.22So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken. 23Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing.24But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,25and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 35: 01.033. THE NEW BIRTH-NICODEMUS MEETS JESUS AT NIGHT ======================================================================== The New Birth-Nicodemus Meets Jesus at Night (John 3:1-21) 1Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;2this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from Godasa teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”3Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?”5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.6“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7“Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’8“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?”10Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things?11“Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony.12“If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?13“No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man 1:14“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up;15so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. 16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.17“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.18“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.19“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.20“For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.21“But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 36: 01.034. DISCIPLES BAPTIZE MANY IN JUDEA ======================================================================== Disciples baptize Many in Judea (John 3:22-24) 22After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing.23John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; andpeoplewere coming and were being baptized—24for John had not yet been thrown into prison. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 37: 01.035. JOHN THE BAPTISTS LAST TESTIMONY ======================================================================== John the Baptists Last Testimony (John 3:25-36) 25Therefore there arose a discussion on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purification.26And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.”27John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.28“You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent ahead of Him.’29“He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.30“He must increase, but I must decrease. 31“He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.32“What He has seen and heard, of that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.33“He who has received His testimony has set his seal tothis, that God is true.34“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.35“The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.36“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 38: 01.036. HEROD IMPRISONS JOHN THE BAPTIST ======================================================================== Herod Imprisons John the Baptist (Luke 3:19-20) (Mark 1:14-15) (Matthew 4:12) 19But when Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the wicked things which Herod had done,20Herod also added this to them all: he locked John up in prison. 14Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,15and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” 12Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; ======================================================================== CHAPTER 39: 01.037. SAMARITAN WOMAN AT JACOB’S WELL ======================================================================== Samaritan Woman at Jacob’s Well (John 4:4-30) 4And He had to pass through Samaria.5So He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph;6and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”8For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.9Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”11She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?12“You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”13Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” 15The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”16He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”17The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’;18for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”19The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.20“Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and youpeoplesay that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”21Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.22“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.23“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.24“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”25The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”26Jesus said to her, “I Am He who speaks to you.” 27At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”28So the woman left her water pot, and went into the city and said to the men,29“Come, see a man who told me all the things that Ihavedone; this is not the Christ, is it?”30They went out of the city, and were coming to Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 41: 01.039. DISCIPLES QUESTION JESUS ======================================================================== Disciples Question Jesus (John 4:31-38) 31Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”32But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”33So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Himanythingto eat, did he?”34Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.35“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, andthencomes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.36“Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.37“For in thiscasethe saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’38“I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 42: 01.040. THE SAMARITANS OF SYCHAR FOLLOW THE WOMAN FROM THE WELL TO HEAR JESUS AND MANY... ======================================================================== The Samaritans of Sychar Follow the Woman From the Well to Hear Jesus And Many Believed in Him (John 4:39-42) 39From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that Ihavedone.”40So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.41Many more believed because of His word;42and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 43: 01.041. ARRIVAL IN CANA OF GALILEE ======================================================================== Arrival in Cana of Galilee (John 4:43-45) 43After the two days He went forth from there into Galilee.44For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 44: 01.042. THE 2ND MIRACLE OF CANA-THE OFFICIAL’S SON HEALED ======================================================================== The 2nd Miracle of Cana-The Official’s Son Healed (John 4:46-54) 46Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum.47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploringHimto come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.48So Jesus said to him, “Unless youpeoplesee signs and wonders, yousimplywill not believe.”49The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”50Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.51As he was now going down, hisslaves met him, saying that his son was living.52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”53So the father knew thatit wasat that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household.54This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 45: 01.043. Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”26Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.27They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee. 33In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,34“Let us alone! What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”35But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in the midstof the people,he came out of him without doing him any harm.36And amazement came upon them all, and theybegantalking with one another saying, “What is this message? Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.”3And some of the scribes said to themselves, “Thisfellowblasphemes.”4And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?5“Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk’?6“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your bed and go home.”7And he got up and went home.8But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men. 17One day He was teaching; and there weresomePharisees and teachers of the law sittingthere, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea andfromJerusalem; and the power of the Lord waspresentfor Him to perform healing.18Andsomemenwerecarrying on a bed a man who was paralyzed; and they were trying to bring him in and to set him down in front of Him.19But not finding anywayto bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middleof the crowd,in front of Jesus.20Seeing their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.”21The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this manwho speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?”22But Jesus, aware of their reasoning’s, answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts?23“Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins have been forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?24“But, so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,”—He said to the paralytic—“I say to you, get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home.”25Immediately he got up before them, and picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God.26They were all struck with astonishment andbeganglorifying God; and they were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen remarkable things today.” 1When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.2And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.3And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.4Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.5And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”6But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,7“Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?”8Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?9“Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your walk’?10“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic,11“I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.”12And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 53: 01.051. MATTHEW (LEVI’S CALL) TO BE A DISCIPLE, GIVES JESUS A PARTY, JESUS GIVES A PARABLE ======================================================================== Matthew (Levi’s Call) To Be A Disciple, Gives Jesus A Party, Jesus Gives A Parable (Mark 2:13-22) (Luke 5:27-39) (Matthew 9:9-17) 13And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them. 14As He passed by, He saw Levi thesonof Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him. 15And it happened that He was recliningat the tablein his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him.16When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”17And hearingthis,Jesus said to them, “It isnot those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” 18John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”19And Jesus said to them, “While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.20“But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.22“No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skinsas well;butone putsnew wine into fresh wineskins.” 27After that He went out and noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me.”28And he left everything behind, and got up andbeganto follow Him. 29And Levi gave a big reception for Him in his house; and there was a great crowd of tax collectors and otherpeople who were recliningat the tablewith them.30The Pharisees and their scribesbegangrumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”31And Jesus answered and said to them, “It isnot those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.32“I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” 33And they said to Him, “The disciples of John often fast and offer prayers, thedisciplesof the Pharisees also do the same, but Yours eat and drink.”34And Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the attendants of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?35“Butthedays will come; and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.”36And He was also telling them a parable: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.37“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled out, and the skins will be ruined.38“But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.39“And no one, after drinking oldwine wishes for new; for he says, ‘The old is goodenough.’” 9As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him. 10Then it happened that as Jesus was recliningat the tablein the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples.11When the Pharisees sawthis, they said to His disciples, “Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?”12But when Jesus heardthis,He said, “It isnot those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.13“But go and learn what this means: ‘IDESIRECOMPASSION,AND NOT SACRIFICE,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”14Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”15And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.16“But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.17“Nor dopeopleput new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 54: 01.052. JESUS GOES INTO JERUSALEM FOR A FEAST AND HEALS MAN AT POOL OF BETHESDA ======================================================================== Jesus Goes Into Jerusalem For a Feast And Heals Man at Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-15) 1After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.2Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheepgatea pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes.3In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, [waiting for the moving of the waters;4for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.]5A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.6When Jesus saw him lyingthere, and knew that he had already been a long timein that condition,He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”7The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”8Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”9Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet andbeganto walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.10So the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.”11But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’”12They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick upyour palletand walk’?”13But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd inthat place.14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”15The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 55: 01.053. JESUS THEN IS CHALLENGED FOR HEALING THE MAN AT THE POOL ON THE SABBATH ======================================================================== Jesus Then Is Challenged For Healing The Man At The Pool On the Sabbath (John 5:16-47) 16For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.17But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 56: 01.054. JESUS HAS EQUALITY WITH FATHER YAH ======================================================================== Jesus Has Equality with Father Yah 18For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.19Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unlessit issomething He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.20“For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; andthe Fatherwill show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.21“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.22“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,23so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 57: 01.055. TWO RESURRECTIONS ======================================================================== Two Resurrections 25“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.26“For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;27and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He istheSon of Man.28“Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,29and will come forth; those who did the good deedsto a resurrection of life, those who committed the evildeedsto a resurrection of judgment. 30“I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 31“If Ialonetestify about Myself, My testimony is not true.32“There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 58: 01.056. WITNESS OF THE SCRIPTURE ======================================================================== Witness of the Scripture 39“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;40and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.41“I do not receive glory from men;42but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.43“I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.44“How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from theone andonly God?45“Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.46“For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.47“But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 62: 01.060. JESUS QUESTIONED ABOUT PICKING GRAIN ON THE SABBATH, AND HE ANSWERS ======================================================================== Jesus Questioned About Picking Grain On The Sabbath, And He Answers (Matthew 12:1-8) (Luke 6:1-5) (Mark 2:23-28) 1At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the headsof grainand eat.2But when the Pharisees sawthis, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.”3But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions,4how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?5“Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?6“But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.7“But if you had known what this means, ‘IDESIRECOMPASSION,AND NOT A SACRIFICE,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.8“For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” 1Now it happened that He was passing throughsomegrain fields on a Sabbath; and His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eatingthe grain.2But some of the Pharisees said, “Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”3And Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him,4how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread which is not lawful for any to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?”5And He was saying to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” 23And it happened that He was passing through the grain fields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the headsof grain.24The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”25And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;26how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiatharthehigh priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful foranyoneto eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”27Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.28“So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 63: 01.061. ON ANOTHER SABBATH JESUS HEALS A MAN’S HAND ======================================================================== On Another Sabbath Jesus Heals A Man’s Hand (Luke 6:6-11) (Mark 3:1-6) (Matthew 12:9-14) 6On another Sabbath He entered the synagogue and was teaching; and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.7The scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closelyto seeif He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might findreasonto accuse Him.8But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And he got up and came forward.9And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?”10After looking around at them all, He said to him, “Stretch out your hand!” And he didso;and his hand was restored.11But they themselves were filled with rage, and discussed together what they might do to Jesus. 1He entered again into a synagogue; and a man was there whose hand was withered.2They were watching Himto seeif He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.3He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!”4And He said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.5After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.6The Pharisees went out and immediatelybeganconspiring with the Herodians against Him,as tohow they might destroy Him. 9Departing from there, He went into their synagogue.10And a manwas therewhose hand was withered. And they questioned Jesus, asking, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse Him.11And He said to them, “What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out?12“How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”13Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” He stretched it out, and it was restored to normal, like the other.14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him,as tohow they might destroy Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 64: 01.062. JESUS WITHDRAWS TO THE SEA ======================================================================== Jesus Withdraws To The Sea (Matthew 12:15-21) (Mark 3:7-12) 15But Jesus, aware ofthis, withdrew from there. Many followed Him, and He healed them all,16and warned them not to tell who He was.17This wasto fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: 18“BEHOLD, MYSERVANT WHOMIHAVE CHOSEN; MYBELOVED IN WHOMMY SOULisWELL-PLEASED; IWILL PUTMYSPIRIT UPONHIM, ANDHE SHALL PROCLAIMJUSTICE TO THEGENTILES. 19“HE WILL NOT QUARREL,NOR CRY OUT; NOR WILL ANYONE HEARHIS VOICE IN THE STREETS. 20“ABATTERED REEDHE WILL NOT BREAK OFF, AND A SMOLDERING WICKHE WILL NOT PUT OUT, UNTILHELEADSJUSTICE TO VICTORY. 21“AND INHIS NAME THEGENTILESWILL HOPE.” 7Jesus withdrew to the sea with His disciples; and a great multitude from Galilee followed; andalsofrom Judea,8and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon, a great number of people heard of all that He was doing and came to Him.9And He told His disciples that a boat should stand ready for Him because of the crowd, so that they would not crowd Him;10for He had healed many, with the result that all those who had afflictions pressed around Him in order to touch Him.11Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout, “You are the Son of God!”12 And He earnestly warned them not to tell who He was. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 65: 01.063. JESUS GOES UPON A MOUNTAIN AND PRAYS, COMES DOWN AND PICKS THE TWELVE ======================================================================== Jesus Goes Upon A Mountain And Prays, Comes Down And Picks The Twelve (Luke 6:12-16) (Mark 3:13-19) 12It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.13And when day came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also named as apostles:14Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew;15and Matthew and Thomas; Jamesthe sonof Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot;16Judasthe sonof James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. 13And He went up on the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they came to Him.14And He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that Hecouldsend them out to preach,15and to have authority to cast out the demons.16And He appointed the twelve: Simon Peter),17and James, the sonof Zebedee, and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, “Sons of Thunder”);18and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot;19and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 66: 01.064. JESUS COMES DOWN, MULTITUDES COME, JESUS HEALS ALL ======================================================================== Jesus Comes Down, Multitudes Come, Jesus Heals All (Luke 6:17-19) 17Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; andthere wasa large crowd of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon,18who had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured.19And all the people were trying to touch Him, for power was coming from Him and healingthemall. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 67: 01.065. SERMON ON THE MOUNT STARTING WITH BEATITUDES ======================================================================== Sermon On The Mount Starting With Beatitudes (Luke 6:20-23) (Matthew 5:1-12) 20And turning His gaze toward His disciples, Hebeganto say, “Blessedareyouwho arepoor, for yours is the kingdom of God.21“Blessedareyou who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessedareyou who weep now, for you shall laugh.22“Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.23“Be glad in that day and leapfor joy,for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. 1When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.2He opened His mouth andHe was teaching them, saying, 3“Supremely blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4“Supremely blessed are those mourning, for they shall be comforted. 5“Supremely blessed are those having God’s strength in gentleness, for they shall inherit the earth. 6“Supremely blessed are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for they shall be fed and satisfied. 7“Supremely blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8“Supremely blessed are the cleansed, those now pure in heart, for they shall spiritually see God. 9“Supremely blessed are the peacemakers, the ones who proclaim God’s peace, for they shall be called the children of God. 10“Supremely blessed are those who have been persecuted on account of righteousness 11“Supremely blessed are you whenpeopleinsult you and persecute you, saying all kinds of evil against you, lying on account of Me.12“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 68: 01.066. DISCIPLES AND THE WORLD; SALT, LIGHT ======================================================================== Disciples and the World; Salt, light (Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 6:22-23) (Luke 11:33-36) 13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made saltyagain? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. 14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;15nor doesanyonelight a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.16“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 22“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.23“But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 33“No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.34“The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.35“Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.36“If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 70: 01.068. JESUS DID NOT COME TO ABOLISH THE LAW BUT TO FULFILL IT ======================================================================== Jesus Did Not Come To Abolish The Law But To Fulfill It (Matthew 5:17-20) 17“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.18“For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.19“Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches othersto dothe same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teachesthem,he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpassesthatof the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 71: 01.069. PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS ======================================================================== Personal Relationships (Matthew 5:21-48; Matthew 7:12)(Luke 6:27-36) 21“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’22“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guiltyenough to gointo the fiery hell.23“Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,24leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.25“Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.26“Truly I say to you, you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last cent. 27“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOUSHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’;28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.29“If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.30“If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell. 31“It was said, ‘WHOEVERSENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE’;32but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except forthereason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. 33“Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOTMAKE FALSE VOWS,BUT SHALL FULFILL YOURVOWS TO THELORD.’34“But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,35or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it isTHE CITY OF THEGREATKING.36“Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.37“But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’or‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil. 38“You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE,AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’39“But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.40“If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.41“Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.42“Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you. 12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 43“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOUSHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORand hate your enemy.’44“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise ontheevil andthegood, and sends rain ontherighteous andtheunrighteous.46“For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?47“If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doingthan others?Do not even the Gentiles do the same?48“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. 27“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.29“Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.30“Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.31“Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.32“If you love those who love you, what credit isthatto you? For even sinners love those who love them.33“If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit isthatto you? For even sinners do the same.34“If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit isthatto you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the sameamount.35“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evilmen.36“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 72: 01.070. GIVING TO THE POOR ======================================================================== Giving to the Poor (Matthew 6:1-4) 1“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. 2“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.3“But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who seeswhat is donein secret will reward you. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 73: 01.071. INSTRUCTION ON PRAYER ======================================================================== Instruction On Prayer (Matthew 6:5-15) (Luke 11:1-4) 5“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.6“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who seeswhat is donein secret will reward you. 7“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.8“So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11‘Give us this day our daily bread. 12‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] 14“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15“But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. 1It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.” 2And He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. 3‘Give us each day our daily bread. 4‘And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.’” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 74: 01.072. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.17“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face18so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who seeswhat is donein secret will reward you. 19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;21for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 24“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 75: 01.073. THE CURE FOR ANXIETY ======================================================================== The Cure for Anxiety (Matthew 6:25-34) (Luke 12:22-32) 25“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life,as towhat you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body,as towhat you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, andyetyour heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?27“And who of you by being worried can add asinglehour to his life?28“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,29yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.30“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which isalivetoday and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will Henot much moreclotheyou? You of little faith!31“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’32“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. 22And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry aboutyourlife,as towhat you will eat; nor for your body,as towhat you will put on.23“For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.24“Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, andyetGod feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!25“And which of you by worrying can add asinglehour to his life’s span?26“If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?27“Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.28“But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which isalivetoday and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much morewill He clotheyou? You men of little faith!29“And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying.30“For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.31“But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.32“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 76: 01.074. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, andrunning over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” 39And He also spoke a parable to them: “A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?40“A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.41“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?42“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. ======================================================================== CHAPTER 77: 01.075. Grapes are not gathered from thornbushesnor figs from thistles, are they?17 “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.18“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.19“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.20“So then, you will know them by their fruits. 43“For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit.44“For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. 21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME,YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’ ======================================================================== CHAPTER 81: 01.079. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land.2And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching,3“Listento this!Behold, the sower went out to sow;4as he was sowing, some seedfell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.5“Otherseedfell on the rockygroundwhere it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil.6“And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.7“Otherseedfell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.8“Otherseedsfell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”9And He was saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” 1That day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea.2And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach.3And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow;4and as he sowed, someseedsfell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.5“Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.6“But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.7“Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.8“And others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.9“He who has ears, let him hear.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 96: 01.094. WHY DO YOU SPEAK TO THEM IN PARABLES? ======================================================================== Why Do YOU Speak To Them In Parables? (Matthew 13:10-16)(Mark 4:10-12) then (Matthew 13:34-35) 10And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”11Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.12“For whoever has, to himmoreshall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.13“Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14“In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, ‘YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING,BUTWILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING,BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; 15FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, ANDIWOULD HEAL THEM.’ 16“But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.17“For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not seeit, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 10As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, beganasking Himaboutthe parables.11And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables,12so thatWHILE SEEING, THEY MAY SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE, AND WHILE HEARING, THEY MAY HEAR AND NOT UNDERSTAND, OTHERWISE THEY MIGHT RETURN AND BE FORGIVEN.” 9His disciplesbeganquestioning Him as to what this parable meant.10And He said, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the restit isin parables, so thatSEEING THEY MAY NOT SEE,AND HEARING THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND. Mathew 13: 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. 35This wasto fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OFTHE WORLD.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 97: 01.095. THE SOWER PARABLE EXPLAINED TO THEM ======================================================================== The Sower Parable Explained To Them (Luke 8:11-15) (Mark 4:13-20) (Matthew 13:18-23) 11“Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.12“Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.13“Those on the rockysoil arethose who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have nofirmroot; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.14“Theseedwhich fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures ofthislife, and bring no fruit to maturity.15“But theseedin the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. 13And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables?14“The sower sows the word.15“These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.16“In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rockyplaces, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy;17and they have nofirmroot in themselves, but areonlytemporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away.18“And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word,19but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.20“And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” 18 “Hear then the parable of the sower.19 “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evilonecomes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.20 “The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;21yet he has nofirmroot in himself, but isonlytemporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.22 “And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.23 “And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.” ======================================================================== CHAPTER 98: 01.096. Is it notbrought to be put on the lampstand?22 “For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor hasanythingbeen secret, but that it would come to light.23 “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”24And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides.25“For whoever has, to himmoreshall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.” ======================================================================== Source: https://sermonindex.net/books/writings-of-jonathan-harness-volume-1/ ========================================================================
