38 - The Radiant Path of Faith
THE RADIANT PATH OF FAITH Walk before me, and be thou perfect. Genesis 17.1 Lord, this is what you said to faithful Abraham, and in fact everyone who walks in your presence has true perfection. We lose our perfection only when we lose sight of you.
When we keep our eyes unceasingly turned toward you, we have everything. Alas! Where am I going when I do not see you at all? Where is my purpose? What is it? Where is my light? If we keep our eyes fixed on you with every step we take, we will never stray for a moment. How wonderful it is to remain on the radiant path of faith! O shining faith! O admiring gaze that brings man to maturity and completion! O God, wherever I look, it is you alone that I see in everything that my eyes seem to behold.
Your providence is what holds my attention. My heart keeps watch only for you in the midst of the multitude of business affairs, duties, and even thoughts that you oblige me to have. I center all my concentration on you, the sovereign and sole object of my attention.
To divide my thoughts in order to obey you is to reunite them with your will. What could I see in unworthy created things if you cease to ask me to apply myself to them, and if I cease to see you through them?
