Listen to the right voice. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. John 6.68 Jesus Christ is the one we must listen to. As far as people are concerned, we ought to listen to them and believe them only insomuch as they are full of Jesus Christ's truth and authority. Books are good only to the extent that they teach us the good news of the gospel. Therefore, let us go straight to that sacred source. Jesus Christ spoke and acted only so that we might listen to him and attentively study the details of his life. But how foolish we are! We run after our own thoughts, which are only vain and fruitless, and we neglect the truth himself whose words are able to make us live forever. Speak, O divine word, O uncreated word, who took on human flesh for me. Let my soul hear you. Say everything you desire. I want everything that is pleasing to you.
