Jesus, Our Model. I always do what is pleasing to Him, the Father. John 8.29. Dear Jesus, help us understand where this example ought to be leading us. Here is our model. You acted only according to the good pleasure of your Father, who is willing to be named our Father as well. Act in us as you yourself did according to the Father's good pleasure. Let us be united inseparably to you, consulting only your plans and purposes. It is not enough for us to pray, to teach others, to suffer, and to edify others. No, we must eat, sleep, and carry on conversations, having in mind only obedience to God's will. Then, we will be in a state of continual sacrifice, uninterrupted love, unceasing prayer. When, O Lord, will we reach that point? But it is up to you to apportion your gifts, and it is up to us to bring ourselves to nothing in your sight. Lord, do with us, not only outwardly, but deep within us, as it seems good to you. It is not for us to take the measure of your mercies.
