Why was Jesus Baptized? Importance of His Genealogy?

Why is Jesus’ Genealogy important?

Why do you think Jesus was baptized?

In order to fulfill all Righteousness, What does this exactly mean?

If we say consecration into service, piesthood, Why?

Re: Why was Jesus Baptized? Importance of His Genealogy?

I don't have an answer to all these questions, but pertaining to baptism, this is what I understand it to be:

Jesus was baptized before He went into fulfilling what the "Suffering Servant" and the "Son of Man" aspect of His Messiahship.

Really, to put it in clear view, Jesus was the third and final Redeemer of mankind. There were two other distinct "shadows" or "typological views" of this redemption. The first was of (1) Moses being God's chosen redeemer for Israel who was in bondage in Egypt as physical slaves. The second was God using (2) Zerubabel to lead Israel back to Canaan from their physical bondage of slavery in Babylon/Assyria. In fact, before this was to take place, a "voice that cries out from the wilderness" as a very distinct typology of what John the Baptist was. In fact, compare these two passages:

Isaiah 40:3
A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.

Luke 3:3-6
And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins; as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight. ‘Every ravine will be filled, And every mountain and hill will be brought low; The crooked will become straight, And the rough roads smooth; And all flesh will see the salvation of God.’ ”

If you can "see" this in light of God's heart in redeeming people from the ULTIMATE BONDAGE OF SIN, the Role of Christ when He was baptized was to be “coronated” (compare what the Father says to His Son with the Jewish royal-coronation psalm found in Psalms 2) as the Redeemer who will free man from their sins—at least those who give their lives to Him and die to themselves. Although the Jewish in the time of Christ longed expectantly for this Cosmic-Messiah to come become their physical King, Jesus came to first be coronated as the Suffering Servant (Isa. 53) who would “heal” men from the ultimate sickness: SIN.

Re: Why was Jesus Baptized? Importance of His Genealogy?

I posted this in the lounge but wanted to make sure you got it, Sam.

"Why is Jesus’ Genealogy important?"

It shows He was real from a historic perspective. Brings to mind the fact that Jesus is as real as you and I, and tangible.

There are many reflections of other things in the geneology, as well:

1) David is a direct reflection of Christ (son of Jesse).
2) The first ten names of the geneology translated into English basically say "Man, Appointed, Mortal, Sorrow, The Blessed God, Shall Come Down, Preaching (that), His Death Shall Bring, (the) Despairing, Rest."
3) Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are a reflection of the trinity. FATHER Abraham, Isaac, the sacrificed Son, Isaac, was broken, and then blessed many nations in God's service (Holy Ghost)

The list you could make would be endless with enough study and devotion.

"Why do you think Jesus was baptized?"

John Baptist was a forerunner of Christ. Notice the fact that John begins the ministy in the New Testament. Then came Christ preaching. Then at His baptism, the dove lit on Him.

Think of John as a reflection of the Father, then we have Jesus, then the dove is the Holy Ghost. It is one of many reflections of the trinity, in this case all three converging together at His baptism.

This is where many may depart from my teaching, but I think this was also a case of Jesus showing the importance of being filled, or baptized with the Holy Ghost, (not in order to have a spritual gift, but to be anointed to serve) and how it is obediance to God that brings the experience:

Acts 5:32 "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him."

I believe that this is one reason that the church is lacking today, is a lacking of our being filled and led by the Holy Ghost. Notice people rejected the Father in OT, though they still sought a form of godliness. Then people rejected Christ who claimed a close knit tie with the Father (though they had none). Today, people claim a close knit relationship with the Father and the Son, and reject the Holy Ghost and His ability for today. The Holy Ghost is God. Not a reflection of God, it is God. It seems most don't have a grip on that.

My opinion, no one taught me this, take it with a grain of salt: the three converged at His baptism to show 1) the diety of the all three persons of the trinity, to include the deity of the Holy Ghost, 2) and to show us to be filled with the Holy Ghost, just as Jesus was, as well as many, many other Bible figures:

Judges 6:34 "But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon"

2 Chr 24:20 "And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah"

Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me"

Ephesians 5:18 "be filled with the Spirit"

 Re: our great High Priest

i could be wrong here,
but i believe Jesus was baptized by John,as by right John was the legal High Priest.
so when John baptized Jesus he became our Great High Priest.
Dick Reuben has some great videos, that go into detail on how this worked, also how Jesus became the Great High Priest over his own death/sacrifice,

Re: Why was Jesus Baptized? Importance of His Genealogy?

Jesus was baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness. I believe this is what the Lord has shown me in regard to this issue. John offered a baptism of repentance for people who were looking forward to the soon appearing Messiah, and to prepare them for the ushering in of the end of the ages.

Jesus came, and was baptized in a baptism of repentance... even though he had nothing to repent of. Jesus did something required by God for sinners. Much as Jesus died on the cross, and died the death of a criminal, though it was only appointed from the beginning of the world that sinners should die, of which Christ was not one. So, in participating in John's baptism, Christ met the requirements of something not required of him. Thus, He fulfilled (met the requirements/demands of) righteousness, in that here he was, perfect and holy and righteous as He was, going through something designed for those that were repentant.

 Re:

John was not by right, the legal high priest. Even if John had the right to be a priest, he in fact was not one, thus, he had no recognized priestly authority from God.

Also, Hebrews teaches clearly that while on earth, Christ could not be a priest. It was not until Christ was raised could He become our great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. According to Hebrews, Christ was made a our great High Priest simply by the word of God, not anything to do with John the Baptist.
