Why No Revival? Idols

2 Kings 17:11-15 (kjv) - And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the Lord carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger. For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that didn not believe in the Lord their God. And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.

The world is about to burn and its foundations shaken by the almighty hand of God, and Christians sit nonchalantly before their television idol, wasting precious time. How Satan and the hoards of hell must laugh with glee at the sight of millions of Christians sitting before his Babylonian idiot box, losing their zeal for God.
- David Wilkerson

 Re: Why No Revival? Idols

It is truely amazing how much time is spent in front of our television sets instead of in God's word. If we would spend two hours a night in prayer instead of on the couch flooding our minds with thoughts and images that are abominations in the sight of our Holy Father our nation would indeed know revival. God longs to move in the hearts of His people, but He first must tear down this altar of Baal that we set before our eyes before He can begin to work in us. David Wilkerson said, "What is it about this thing that has got such a hold on your life that you can't just get rid of it?" Why do we as Christians allow such an idol to reside in our homes? Why is more time spent flipping through the channels than is spent flipping through the Bible. The Word of God is Life, so why are we toying with death? Jesus blesses us with time to learn of His ways, not for us to spend it feeding our flesh. Although we are in the world we are not to be of the world. You see, many do not find their t.v. sets to be an idol in their lives, but I speak from experience when I say that it does have a hold on you. When you make the decision that you want all of Christ no matter what it takes, you will begin to see Christ separating you from the things which are not of Him. We must tear down this altar. But we must also remember that God does not delight in our sacrifice if we are not growing nearer to him in the process. This time we have here on earth is precious, lets give it all to Jesus.

This makes me cry inside! How excited are we to serve God, it seems that only some Christian leaders actually get excited about serving God and making a difference for Him in this world. Lets get radical for Christ, give our all to Him, He deserves nothing less. Let us allow God to breathe in our hearts and fill us with his life and purpose.

You breathe in my and you revive,
feeling in my soul that I have layed to rest.
So breathe in me I need you now!
I have never felt so dead within
So breathe in my maby somehow,
you can breathe new life in me again.
-Micheal W. Smith

Breathe in us O Lord, we give ourselves to you again! for your names sake. Let us give more of our hearts to you, even now Lord Jesus!

I thought I would just bring this thread again to peoples attention. Its amazing how much influnce and control TV has on our lifes. Truly I am desiring to read God's word so much these days, we need to get really close to God in these days. I know one person who has committed to read 15 chapters of the bible every day. thats 90 chapters a week and would result in the whole bible being read in 3-4 months!!! Let's read and re-read God's precious word and let it get deep into our spirits. Follow along in the bible reading plan:

 Re:

I am amazed at how much better I feel after stoping watching TV all together 3+ months ago. I started weaning myself off it early last year.

I have a tremendous amount of time on my hands. People ask me "how do you have time to do that?" I answer: well, if it comes down to ministry or Gun Smoke re-runs-- I feel better after ministry. :-D Not trying to sound pious at all. Just trying to give a true testimony.

Try it for 2 weeks. Fast the TV for 2 weeks and see hom much better your walk with God will be! I even have more time for the wife and kids, etc. I also feel stronger Spiritually and temptation is much more manageable.

How about it?

God Bless,

-Robert

Re: From Family Altar to Personal Idol ...

What a funny, but sad cartoon ...

But personally I think the devil has done one step worse ... He's went from TV to PC, which for so many has become PI (Personal Idol) ... Vast blocks of time is spent worshiping idly before this calf, by young and old alike ... Youth with their violent games and chat rooms ... And so many men ensnared in it's straight to the vein pornography ... It's amazing to me how much time can be eaten up on a computer, if we're not careful.

I personally try to read an entire book in one setting. Much easier done with New Testament books than with Old, but it gives a much better perspective on Scripture than reading a few verses at a time. You are able to see the Scripture in context of the whole book and Book rather than a few paragraphs at a time. I don't always succeed at this, but it is what I strive for when I read my Bible.

 Re:

I've been making use of an mp3 version of the Bible (NIV) lately, reading along in the text. Not quite as deep as I'd want to read, but not bad either, and a steady pace. Lends itself well to listening to a book (usually multiple) in one sitting, even Genesis.

 Re: Bible on Tape ...

Amen ... I have the entire KJV narrated by Alexander Scourby on tape, and listen to it while driving back and forth to work (90 mins a day) ... It's been a great method for me because I hear things that I don't pick up reading.
