Hell and Everlasting PunishmentPart 21: UngodlinessThe ungodly in this world will go to a place of ungodliness in the next world. The question is asked, "Where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?" (1 Peter 4:18). The Psalmist answered, "The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away," and "the way of the ungodly shall perish" (Psalm 1:4,6).MARTIN LUTHER: "So God, at the day of judgement, will seperate all things through fire, the righteous from the ungodly. The Christians and righteous shall ascend upward into heaven, and there live everlastingly, but the wicked and ungodly, as the dross and filth, shall remain in hell, and there be damned."HERBERT LOCKYER: "It is mercilessly clear that there is a hell, and that the wicked are to be turned into it. Not to preach it is to smotth the way to perdition for lost souls. If men were walking hard by the edge of a precipice, would we not be branded as murderers if we did not cry out loud to warn them? Dare we silently stand by while souls tramp the road to eternal torment? The idea of such terrible woe may be abhorrent to many, but our course is clear. We must warn sinners that finally to reject Christ means that they must endure the consequences of their sin and become the objects of divine wrath."
