| The true church shall rise from this scorched earth.|
As long as the Church had remained separate it had been a powerful witness for Christ in the world and was constantly drawing converts into its holy fellowship. When, however, already weakened by the adoption of human rule in place of the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it was suddenly brought into partnership with the state, it became itself defiled and debased. Very soon the clergy were competing for lucrative positions and for power as shamelessly as the court officials, while in congregations where a godless element predominated the material advantages of a profession of Christianity changed the purity of the persecuted churches into worldliness. The church was thus powerless to stem the downward course of the civilized world into corruption. (E.H.Broadbent- The pilgrim Church pg 46)
Broadbent is speaking of what happened when the church was swallowed up by the Roman empire in the times of Constantine. There was a purity in the persecuted church, the persecution itself kept them close to God and dependent upon Him, but when the persecution stopped and they now found themselves in the ranks of the rich and the powerful, in very short order it was totally corrupt. The western Roman empire did not survive very long after it co-opted the church. The deeper principal at play here was separation from the world enhances purity in the Church. It does this because when we are clearly separate from the world we incur the wrath of the world. We are, so to speak, the conscience of the world.
The world should be able to look at us and see something very different from itself. When it does, it brings about conviction of sin and hatred from the world because of that. Yet Jesus had already told us that if the world hated Him it would certainly hate us. And so, hatred leads to persecution and along with persecution, the Church is purified as it suffers for the cause of Christ. A unique anointing rests upon us when we are fulfilling our role in this world. But in the west at least, we have wanted that anointing without any willingness to suffer or to be the conscience of the world, to be a counter-culture rather than to be a sub-culture.
Indeed, the vast majority of what passes for the church now is seeker friendly to one degree or another. We do our best to be just like the world so that we shall not offend it in any way. We become like social workers in our desire to befriend the world. In multiple denominations now it has went far beyond that, embracing as normal, the sins that have taken society by the throat and are tearing it apart. Divorce, homosexuality, living with one another and pre-marital sex have been embraced by many. We are no longer the conscience of the world but have become part of the instruments of searing their conscience.
Our own worldliness has led to the darkness that is plunging the world headlong into hell. The good news is that there are some issues that are really black and white for any genuine saint. Homosexuality would be one of them. No genuine Christian could embrace this lifestyle choice and because of that we shall undoubtedly find ourselves once again the conscience of the world. This of course will lead to persecution which will lead to the particular anointing that rests upon the church when it is persecuted for the sake of Truth, for the sake of Jesus.
We shall once again be a powerful witness in the world, albeit a much smaller group than what professes to be Christian. But it will still be a powerful group of countless millions of saints. The remnant saints of God shall be compelled, because of their love for the truth and for Jesus, to come out of the world and the worldly church. We shall regain again the mantle of the Church, we shall know this because the world will hate us just like it hated our Lord. We servants are not greater than our Master, if the world hated Him it will hate us. If He suffered their wrath then so shall we. If it is His will that we shall suffer then we shall be anointed. This is, in fact, what you were called to do, because: The Messiah also suffered for you and left an example for you to follow in his steps (1 Pet 2:21) ...............bro Frank

I don't bear negative witness to this word but,

Could this be a portrait of people that never were part of the true church to begin with? It does not fit a description of the people I now go to church with and fellowship with. Nor does it fit any of the churches and brethren I have been part of since I became a Christian many years ago.
/Our own worldliness has led to the darkness that is plunging the world headlong into hell./
What about unredeemed man's spiritual condition where the axe has not been laid to the root? It seems the church is many times blamed for the course that unregenerate man sets for himself. I'm not really bucking this word but the people of Jesus' day saw many miracles and signs but still stood there unrepentant. Jesus said of them you won't believe even if you see one rise from the dead. Meanwhile, if these descriptions of the church many use today to describe Christians were always true it would be different. It has never been my experience. I believe and agree the church will go through a final purifying and straitening but unredeemed man's sin and lawlessness is where I believe the revealed word of God lies most of the blame for world conditions.
But thank you for sharing this.

Hi David, you write........
"Could this be a portrait of people that never were part of the true church to begin with? It does not fit a description of the people I now go to church with and fellowship with. Nor does it fit any of the churches and brethren I have been part of since I became a Christian many years ago."
It could be David, only God knows, but people do turn back, dogs do return to their vomit, pigs do go back and wallow in the mud. As for it not looking like your particular church, I have no problems believing that David, but I was writing to Christendom which spans the world............bro Frank

That's good. No problem.
I'm just thinking that that part of the church which is obvio9usly growing ever more quickly toward outright apostasy may not have been part of the true regenerated church to begin with. Then it seems so many try to tear up these tares and tear up the wheat also. I don't want to be found guilty of tearing up the wheat and speaking against that which God has formed an everlasting covenant with. Yet I believe that the true church will also be tried and purified so as to cause it to go where it would not and could not go into power of its own flesh and will. The church is definitely going to be straitened in the days ahead so as to cleanse it from its own self sufficiency which still affects all of us. What is popular these days is "prophetic" messages that minister guilt and condemnation rather than godly repentance and sorrow. There is a vast difference.
Thanks for sharing what you did.

I agree David, there is a vast difference between guilt and condemnation and exhortation, which can in itself be tough and unyielding but always designed and given to edify the hearers, the Body of Christ............bro Frank

Very enlightening post brother Frank...
Also very good insights brother David...
John 15:18-19 (KJV) 18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 15:23-25 (KJV)
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But [this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
John 3:20 (KJV)
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Matthew 5:11 (KJV)
11 Blessed are ye, when [men] shall revile you, and persecute [you], and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Matthew 10:22 (KJV)
22 And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Matthew 24:9 (KJV)
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
James 4:4 (KJV)
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
1 John 3:1,3,13 (KJV)
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
Notice if you read all these scriptures in context you will see that Jesus wants His church to remain separate from the world. This separation is a spiritual separation that will cause us to face hatred from people who are possessed of a worldly spirit that is hostile to a godly Spirit.
I don’t think Jesus was meaning that everybody in the world who are not Christians will necessarily hate us who are Christians. There will be some regions worse toward the gospel than others. We must be prepared and be willing to endure opposition.
I see a lot of what Frank was writing about where the majority of the church has compromised with the world. Entire denominations have become apostate accepting what is an abomination against God.
With God’s grace and help, I’m going to keep on preaching the gospel of good news to the lost and to the edifying of the body of Christ. I’m going to rejoice in the Lord forevermore and proclaim the blood and the cross of Christ with power unto victorious living. My focus will be to preach Jesus the only name under heaven whereby we must be saved. Desiring God’s people to receive the whole counsel of God as well as forbearing with others in love.
I have learned that I must minister with the anointing of the Spirit for the letter kills but the Spirit supplies life that makes alive unto to God the spirit of the people, so that they can receive by faith the truth that makes them free from everything that is against God.
The truth must be preached but it must be preached in love. The people need to be set free from all strongholds of the flesh that have been rooted in them from sinning and also from believing wrong doctrine.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is...there is freedom. I have learned to preach the Word and to be very careful that I don’t preach a doctrine that goes against the pure Word of God...to make sure that it promotes godliness and a pure devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. This is very important with all the winds of doctrine that many promote in the media today that appeal to the flesh and worldliness. Many are the enemies of the cross of Christ. The path to victory is denying ourselves and taking up our Christ to walk in the Spirit following Jesus voice in the Word.
Blessings to all...rbanks
