Re: Putting to death sexual sin

I was blessed by the Word of God being preached without compromise yesterday. Greg Lundstedt of Vancouver Bible Fellowship preached a uncompromising sermon on Colossians 3:5-7,

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. - Colossians 3:5-7, ESV

Good thought here, if you can be constructive in praying for yourself to be identified with the Lord's death. It does not mean run to places where you will feel tested!. 'Flee temptation' is more applicable.

 Re:

Rom 12:9 [Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good.

Do you know what I think of when I read "turn in horror"? I think about the people on the streets of NY running from the falling building and all that smoke and dust storming after them. When we are in even a situation that others could mistake as "compromising", we are to flee as one who is running from horror. Selah!

 Re:

Lahry, interesting post you have... and I would like to respond to a few things....

About vacation: actually, the idea has come to my mind about a summer vacation spent in some brief ministry, but it is too late for this year...maybe next year. One thing I am discovering is that we will have to make this a serious matter of prayer for the very reasons I mention.

As a married woman talking I must say I agree with some who will say women dress to attract men for the wrong reasons. We wives like to do things to turn our husbands on, but to take that thing to the public??! Excuse me, but we are not dumb nor judgmental when we cry foul. This is the way it is. Mary Quant, known as the mother of the mini-skirt has been quoted in Newsweek as having said, "mini-cloths are symbolic of those girls who didn't want to wait until dark to seduce a man." And I would guess low necklines would fit in there very nicely.

Many years ago when I was in a grocery story I saw a young girl with a swim suit on. She was up front regaling the male carry-out boys with her body by engaging in provocative twists and turns. The males responded with whistles... Meanwhile the mother was oblivious of her daughters' antics (this was a small town). The girl grew up and I am told all of these sisters were involved in immorality. The parents of these girls were very religious people, involved in ministry. At the moment when I saw this I did not say anything to the mother because I was afraid because she seemed to have it all together so nicely. In other words, she intimated me. Shame on me!!!

As I see it, when a person realizes he/she has a problem then there is hope for victory. It is nigh impossible to convince a person they have a problem when they refuse to acknowledge it.

If I recall correctly, Larry Christianson said in his book "The Christian Family" that over exposure to human flesh will dull a person's natural response to human flesh (of the opposite sex) and make that person vulnerable to homosexuality. I would guess that is why we have the problems with homosexuality. Men and women have been over exposed to the opposite sex so it has lost its attractiveness so they turn inward towards their own gender. So sad.

Ok, I said my piece...

I am not saying that we ought to run into places which would heighten are senses but in being wise in this society what is going to be the product of this culture how bad is it going to get. I always like the verse to him
tit 1:15
Tit 1:15 - Show ContextUnto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
I am hoping that i will come into such a commune with god that this verse will be true in my life!!! I am so grateful to hear a issue that I stuggle with so much!!! every single day !!! I need to read my bible more there is a verse in john about the word of god making you clean and confessing your sin to one another !! I not only need to confess my sin but my past sin aswell!!
Pray for that that I will be completly accountable before god and man!! I so want to be!! I want to find someone to share my heart with on this issue!! because it is getting worse in are culture!! god is love and love is not god, c s lewis quotes if love becomes a demon it becomes a god, I also think it is better to love than be in selfishness and pride!! i think his pure love would conquer all pride and lust!!
I am just need his guidance!!!

 Re:

"I will make you fishers of men."
we must pray for those who are without the Good news of the gospel
Its funny when you think of it that Adam and Eve were nude in the garden, and walk with god in the cool of the day. then they sinned and he(God) covered them.
he is not going to take us out of the world, but bring us thru the world
Thank you Jesus

Re: Modesty - to the ladies

Oh wow, I just read this thread for the first time and I want to tell all the ladies on this site to consider this thread. Oh please, read it and then go before the Lord on this matter.
I have been thinking about the issue of modesty as Christian women and have just gone through an excellent series on it by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Ladies, I highly, highly recommend that series from her. Those CDs were some of the best I have heard on the issue. And Nancy has such a heart for God...as everyone knows who listens to her on the radio.
Anyway, I know it's not the easy road, girls, to dress in a way that will not cause our brothers to stumble in the way they are talking about. But is it worth it to indulge in our pleasure and comfort when it makes another fumble and even fall?
My heart has been heavy about this matter. I have been in some churches over the last few days and seen some really sad things in the way women (girls especially) dress. I want to shield my own two brothers and dad from that defrauding. And I want every Christian man to be shielded from that temptation also. And I want our witness as women to be such as brings glory to our Lord. We are part of the Bride of Christ...are we dressing that way?
Guys, you've got my sympathy and prayers. Thanks for your honesty. Most women have absolutely NO idea what you struggle with. Keep your eyes on Jesus and keep running the race He has give you to run (Hebrews 12:1-3).

Your sister in Christ,
Joy
:-)
